What seems to be flying about the head of many, and I don’t know why, is that in Canada, you have the legal right to peaceful protest. Just like the US. There is nothing in the Charter about disruptive protests, which this is. The government and police forces can’t just break them up because they’re being a bunch of disruptive @ssholes. Trudeau has said that he supports their right to protest, and will continue to support that right.
In addition to this, this group came out to basically government and with the intention of being disruptive and acting like @ssholes until their demands are met. They were founded by a group of extreme right wing activists who fancy themselves as freedom fighters. There is no talking and negotiating with them. They want what they want. Unfortunately, with this type of activist, this has the ability to become violent very quickly and the Canadian public has very little tolerance and stomach for that kind of political violence, or violence on any level. The police aren’t “doing” much because of that. This isn’t a bunch of hippies chained to a door on a hunger strike. This is a contingent that generally supports gun rights, is operating heavy machinery, and is actively picking a fight. I also want to point out that this isn’t all truckers. If 2000 trucks are participating, this is not even close to 1% of all truckers in Canada. All the professional organizations have denounced the actions. Even if there are a million supporters of this action in the country, that amounts to less than 3% of the population. Oh, and FWIW, there hasn’t been a change in cross border activity since the vaccine mandate went in to place, so no, no one was or is losing jobs. |
‘Significant element’ from U.S. involved in self-described ‘Freedom Convoy’ in Canada, official says

The bolded - exactly. Yes, there are a lot of people there. Absolutely. They still amount to a small percentage. Farmers blocking their neighbors from getting essentials is pathetic. |
Dunno, maybe they were American? https://ca.yahoo.com/news/ottawa-police-theres-significant-american-033848793.html Much of the funding is coming from Stateside too. |
If you KEEP tracing the funding I wonder how much of it is coming from Russia?
Russia has been making significant investments into disinformation to destabilize the west. |
I wouldn’t doubt it. I’m glad GFM has released very little of the funds, and has paused the account again, esp. since very little of the money is coming from within Canada, the people who this movement is supposed to represent. |
Is that the latest bogeyman claim these days? Among people who can't understand and accept that their own neighbors and friends and countrymen may have, gasp, different views and opinions. You know, a healthy democracy is supposed to accommodate a wide range of different views and beliefs. It's what liberalism is all about. Do you know what are the countries that mandate only one correct view and impose it on its people without any dissent? Fascist dictatorships.... What do you want? All this anger over people expressing freedom of speech and being angry with the government is a hallmark of a functioning liberal democracy. It's pretty clear to me that the people sneering at the truckers or any other anti-lockdown mandates or even vaccine mandates are people who'd be much more comfortable and happier living in a dictatorship. |

Hardly a bogeyman. It's straight out of "Foundations of Geopolitics" which is Alexander Dugin's playbook on destabilizing the west, required reading for Putin's circle. There's evidence that the Russians were funding a similar trucker protest against lockdowns in Czechia. |
Do you support how Chinese gov manage its covid control policy? A building, a subductions sion, a village, or a whole city were lockdown due to a few pcr positive cases. Residents from a whole building or subdivision were bused to isolation site, including newborns and seniors. That kind measure protects spread of positive cases. |
You’re pulling up straw men. These protestors have been subjected in needing to wear a mask in the grocery store, the Bowl a Dome and their favourite strip bar being closed intermittently, and a requirement to vaccinate *or quarantine* before returning from a country that requires them to be vaccinated anyway. They have had the ability to move freely, engage in commerce, have a job, and do everything they do that is actually a protected freedom. They are even allowed to protest, unimpeded by government or military, although they are disrupting the health, wellbeing, and livelihoods of others. The restrictions are lifting anyway, so it’s really all a little too ridiculous and too late in any case. |
The trump-voting Canadian truckers are now pointing to Denmark, which lifted all Covid mandates.
I now hate Denmark. Hate hate HATE THE DANISH! |
The media are downplaying the tremendous popular support that the truckers are enjoying. |
Yes yes yes. It’s so UuuuuUuuuuuge. It’s tremendous really. It’s the most tremendously uge protest that’s ever been protested. Phenomenal. |
Anyone who doesn’t agree with government mandates on vaccine or masks are called right wing or antivax by MSM. Do you know there are people who support vaccine but don’t like the vaccine passport? Do you know there are educated people including immigrants who are POC don’t want get the experimental vaccine? China is the safest country in the world when you think about covid 19. Will any of you want to live in China now? Its almost impossible to die from covid or get infected by the virus. |
