This this this! I have had ENOUGH.

The US has been at the bottom for decades, this is nothing new.

Tell that to the parents and teachers who suffered with virtual learning last year, and the policies this current year. Even though high schoolers have a high vaccination rate, they still have to wear masks. If a kid sneezes at school, there is no test to stay. They can't come back until they show a negative test. Quarantines? 14 days no matter what. Can't test on day 7 like Arlington does.

Take it up with the health department. Stupid reason to vote for a pro-Trump governor.

The Post is a shill for McAuliffe and has no credibility when it comes to Virginia elections. And voting based on education (and a preference to prioritize academic excellence over woke ideology) is certainly more reasonable than voting based on wild-eyed conspiracy theories spun by LWNJs.

Got it— you are more of a fox, oann, daily mail person.

Anonymous wrote:Yes I very much feel this way. My usual main issues are also abortion (and gun control), both which I don’t trust Youngkin on. I am not voting until Election Day because I’m waiting for McAuliffe or Northam to start the converation about lifting the mask mandate in schools now that 5-11 can be vaccinated. My kids are not handling masks well and the data that is constantly cited is not convincing evidence w/o a control for community vaccine rates. I am just done with the over-caution in schools. These kids have had enough. I am leaning Youngkin but not happy about it.

5-11 can’t be vaccinated yet.

I am 100% voting for Glenn based on education. The Governor does have authority to make changes through the state department of education. He will have control over how they move forward on advanced math. He will have ability in some parts of the state (not Fairfax however) to create more charter schools. He will have the ability to change the state directives on state curriculum requirements. And it will give notice to the school board members who have been rubber stamping decisions for years. Their election will take place under the next Governor.

Exactly, things WERE and ARE so much better in Virginia. Go live someplace else for a while and you will beg to come back here.

I guess you don't know any teachers, and how stressful it was for them to pivot through the constant changes. The move to teach virtually then concurrent. They also took a lot of blame whenever things went wrong, even if it was out of their control. Many have quit and taken a leave of absence.

As a teacher, I can tell you it was a lot better than teaching in-person. No teacher was comfortable teaching in-person during that Nov-Jan timeframe when numbers were spiking.

Then why are our rankings so low? Especially for teacher pay?

If you have a problem with being 12th in the nation, move to one of the other 11 states. People can move. Everyone is always posting on how FCPS has ruined their families and kids (so dramatic). Then quit your job and move. You staying here is complacency. No one is living here against their will. Go online find a new job and a new house, millions of people do it daily. And teacher pay, it’s not bad. I make about 15,000-20,000 more than my friends in other states. (parent of a SN kid and a teacher)

No one is saying he is the answer, but he is better than the alternative.

Anonymous wrote:FCPS? Be it for the way they handled Covid last year, or TJ, or AAP, or Advanced Math, or critical race, or whatever is your poison. Has anyone here been considering (or set to) vote Republican sole for school issues (real or perceived)?

I confess that I'm considering voting for Youngkin. It goes against (my) grain as I have NEVER voted for Republicans before. Also, he is pro-life, and I'm a staunch pro-choicer - it has been the MAIN issue to me since I began voting.

OTOH, I feel so mad and just pissed at a bunch of stuff FCPS has been doing (and others I have discovered due to pandemic and virtual school), that this sentiment is taking precedent on my mind right now.

However, when I try to take a step back to analyze things more critically, I'm scared voting for this guy (and assuming he wins), will maybe bring the school thing to what I consider best, but with a huge price to pay. Like VA becoming a next Texas or FL.

I'm so TORN!!!!! Public schools vs everything else!

Anyone else dealing with the same internal dilemma?

Can we please stop with the political posts in the FCPS threads.

The governor has little to do with fcps.

You are either an idiot or a political hack trying to drum up support for team glenn trumpkin. Go away.

Serious question: What's your job? I'm the PP and I'm a Cat B IA in FCPS who went back last October before anyone was vaccinated. We had students with mask exemptions in our classroom. It was very challenging and the only thing that would've made it worse for everyone would have been hundreds of other unvaccinated people walking around in the school at the same time when positivity rates were hovering around 10% and cases were over 200/100,000. I also have a child with special needs. They did the right thing pulling us back out when cases got too high for many reasons, but mainly because staff members were getting sick and there was no one to cover. They also knew they'd be dealing with an even worse shortage than they already are if they said Screw It and expected people to keep working as cases soared. FCPS doesn't pay anyone who works in Special Ed enough but at least they did do something to get the most needy students back first and kept the buildings almost empty to protect those students and those of us who had to work under the circumstances. I don't blame the teachers and staff who didn't come back but voting for Youngkin is not going to help any parent of a SN child or those of us who work with these students.
