No way!!!

The GOP is pushing crazier and crazier ideas each year. I can’t imagine what they will come up with next.

We need a D to block that crazy.

But it's not a crazy idea to bus minorities around the area to achieve diversity metrics? Look at how that's working around the country.

If they implement this plan, it should be to bus white kids to these other schools.

+1

Perhaps. But he could at least get rid of Northam’s K-12 mask mandate and let that be a local decision.

Yes the K-12 mask mandate is ludicrous given vaccine availability and uptake. If not not then when? Are we waiting for another variant that can evade the vaccine? We need to let these kids have a break when they can! 30 days post vaccine availability needs to be a marker for lifting the mandate.

I am not voting until Election Day because I’m waiting for McAuliffe or Northam to start the converation about lifting the mask mandate in schools now that 5-11 can be vaccinated. My kids are not handling masks well and the data that is constantly cited is not convincing evidence w/o a control for community vaccine rates. I am just done with the over-caution in schools. These kids have had enough. I am leaning Youngkin but not happy about it.

Vaccines are imminent. Numbers will continue to drop. Mask requirements will be gone possibly by spring or by fall at the latest.

Either way it’s a short-term thing that will be over within months of the new GOVA’s term.

No need to elect a Trump Republican for four years.

This board is NOVA, and I'm worried there are enough people like those commenting for Youngkin here, that McAuliffe will lose.

DCUM is anonymous so it’s impossible to know numbers or who is actually a VA voter.

Regardless, encourage your family/friends/neighbors to get out to vote. I think the biggest concern is low turnout.

Largely because so many people feel like OP. It’s really hard to vote for McAuliffe. And Youngkin isn’t a good option either. A lot of NOVA, myself included, doesn’t want to vote for either.

I voted for JCF in the primary. If she were the nominee, I would have a,ready voted early. As is, I may leave Governor blank.

The Post is a shill for McAuliffe and has no credibility when it comes to Virginia elections. And voting based on education (and a preference to prioritize academic excellence over woke ideology) is certainly more reasonable than voting based on wild-eyed conspiracy theories spun by LWNJs.

I also voted for JCF and think she would have crushed it. But I’m NOT going to jump to the other extreme - a Trump Republican - as the alternative just because I’m disappointed. You are really OK with Youngkin?

Tell that to the parents and teachers who suffered with virtual learning last year, and the policies this current year. Even though high schoolers have a high vaccination rate, they still have to wear masks. If a kid sneezes at school, there is no test to stay. They can't come back until they show a negative test. Quarantines? 14 days no matter what. Can't test on day 7 like Arlington does.

And students, they suffered too.

I don’t think they can get vaccinated yet.

He won’t make schools better. But some people think the governor controls schools, so….

Sends a message though

Yep, of your ignorance

Yep, because going back to when white middle class students were getting way more than everyone (and they still are) was definitely better (for them).

Totally fake news. look at funding in Title 1 schools and staff student ratios compared to non title 1. There’s something called google. Try using it.

I work in a title 1 school. Those students are 1-3 grades below level. Please you need to be more informed.

They can set state policy for the entire state. And look at the Virginia Math Pathways Initiative. It will affect all districts. It needs to be stopped.

Why? Because you believe some RWNJ lies?

NP. Math teacher here. Not a RWNJ. Please do anything you can to stop the VPMI. I will retire early before it hits schools if it stays as planned. It’s not good.

You are so stuck in your ways that you don’t want to blend algebra and geometry concepts?

Sounds like you should retire.

This was discussed as a need on another forum. These parents are contradicting themselves all over the place.

To say nothing of the fact that my 8th grader is in Honors Geometry now and they stay blending algebra into the class. Please retire "math teacher"

In other words they are dumbing down the curriculum so that more students qualify for so-called honors math.

There is no way that geometry and algebra should be taught together. They are merely simplifying both to make it easier

Not debating the merits of VMPI, but you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. The 36 or so countries that are ahead of us in PISA rankings teach Algebra, Geometry and data analysis together throughout secondary school, moving on to Trig/Calc/Stats in the later years. One reason they may do better is that concepts are continuously revisited and extended over several years.

Gosh. That sounds terrible. Why would VA want to do that?

Because that is how people learn, on a continuum.

I live in Herndon and while Terry's plan on incentivized integration would diversify our schools, I don't think it will happen in Nova as all our schools have AP/IB. His plan talks about schools that are majority POC that have no access to advanced classes.
