This whole thing stinks like yesterday’s fish.

If Maret wants a place for its kids to play, they should find a plot of vacant land to buy at market rates. The city property belongs to all District residents and should be available first to public school students, not a privileged few.

The fact that Jack Evans is involved in this sweetheart deal is further guarantee that there’s something sleazy and corrupt going on.

So what are you doing to defeat Crooked Jack and Muriel Barry Bowser?

Start your own thread in the metro politics forum if you want to discuss that. This thread is about Maret’s backroom deal to use jelleff rather than paying a market rate for a playing field like other private schools do.

No this thread is about DPR decision making and a petition based on innuendo and lies. Not to mention every conspiracy theory imaginable and then stick in tin foil for your hats.

Glad if you point out some lies. So far we have people who want something from Jelleff (Evan's son's admission to the school) arranging a no bid deal and then doing it again.

Conspiracy theory tin hat nut job.

Please point out the lies.

The entire petition wording. Your entire post. You prove anything you’ve said. It’s innuendo and conspiracy theory fever dreams. You prove anything you’ve said. That’s right. You can’t. So you and your 3 other friends post conspiracy theory nonsense over and over because you have no factual basis to stand on. And everyone. Sees. Through. It.

I've already posted several times links to both the original Memorandum of Understanding and the easement. The plain language of both support the contention that this renewal is highly irregular. Tell me what facts or sources you can provide to rebut that contention.

Yes, pointing out corruption is demonizing Maret.

I'm sorry, Maret is absolutely a party to this corruption.

Nope. It’s on you to provide absolute evidence for all of the shameful lies and innuendo and smears. Period. This entire thread is 130 pages of lies and fever-dreams of bananas.

As a casual observer on this thread, it seems like way more than three people think Maret was a little shady. And the random periods for emphasis don't help your case much, sorry.

This is a very hard thread for families at Maret. A place that no doubt serves as a kind of safe haven for some very high SES families and fortunate others. Our family has been with another private. Imho the privates are all part of a kind of a parallel universe here in the DMV. Sort of a what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas kind of universe. The problem is Maret stepped over to the public school resource realm. The worlds don't mix well.

The irony is that many of the self-appointed, outraged Jelleff SJWs on this thread will go on to vote to re-elect corrupt, inept DC Mayor Muriel Barry Bowser.

+1. Maret can’t defend this backroom deal so they cry “fake news.” Money and privilege (Miriam Bowser thanks the Abdos for the big donation, Jack Evans thanks Maret for admitting his son and for the generous tuition break.

This one won't.

I'm sorry, that's on the school, not on the people upset with the school. They made their choices.

What does this mean, "safe haven?" Safe haven from the unwashed masses?

Maret does not look good from the posters on this thread--very entitled and seem to be casting about for blame elsewhere. My kid has done DCPS and private (a school with their own facilities) so this is not a knock against all privates at all.

I wonder two things. Do Maret families really know the facts, or do they only know the talking points pushed by the admin/trustees? And what portion of the community doesn’t like Maret’s approach to making deals with corrupt politicians for control of public resources?

It would be interesting if Maret did an anonymous survey of their own community. Clearly they have created an environment in which it would be hard to speak up with a different point-of-view.

The school is happy to have a relatively low cost option for their baseball practices and games and other athletics - and given Bowser is totally on board, they are going to get it... and they assume this will all die down in a couple months. I'd say most of them probably don't care as long as their tuition doesn't go up more.

I testified at the hearing, by request.

I have spoken with several Maret families who are disappointed in what has happened and that the school has dug in their heels instead of engaging in good faith. (The statement from Marjo to Mary Cheh said it all: "We don't want to negotiate against ourselves.") These families are the ones picking up the pieces since they're being asked to testify publicly in support of something they don't agree with.

You either negotiate against yourself or watch as the school reputation burns to the ground. There are a limited number of families who have both the means and willingness to make the donations necessary for the private school model. They are at these schools in part because naming their child's school shows they belong. They don't want to be associated with an opportunist brand. They have the resources to be above obvious moves of that sort. Imho.

This is interesting. What were the implied ramifications of refusing that request or taking a point of view that didn't mesh with the prevailing narrative? Did the school coordinate testimonies? As an outside observer, it looked like it.
