This mid season player addition sounds like it might be Birth Year driven. I don't know your club or your team numbers but I think lots of teams will see this as the season progresses. Lots of new faces showing up at practices. Some of it is normal as it is better to attend a teams practice versus waiting for tryouts. But clubs are likely as anxious as parents are to see how some of their holes will be filled.

They could start by actually looking at the talent already there.

It seems the take home is for players in this club is to start shopping around too.

Really - next year is going to be a bit chaotic. That said, for a club that has teams at all ages, it's pretty easy to know what they have - figure out who's moving up 2 notches (Aug-Dec kids) and who's moving up one notch (Jan-July). Should have a pretty good idea of the pool you've got. Guessing for most the pool is pretty similar to what they currently have.

They would be smart to overhaul the youngest 3 age groups. There are so many kids out of place. There have been only about 1 kid or so per team make 1 move up or down, yet so much really needs to be rearranged. There were many misjudgements at 8 years old when these kids started and it's crystal clear some don't belong where they are now and others need and deserve more challenge.

Open tryouts by birth year should be the way they go instead of just keeping with the current caste system they have running. Of course that would require more work on the clubs part. They might actually have to watch kids play. It might require informing kiss ass dad his kid is moving down.

The other issue is that older doesn't mean better. My kids' age group is notoriously stronger than the one above it, but seniority is seniority and the kids moving up an age group will most likely get the shaft. They are only going to place kids as high as the current dubious rank and put them on that tryout corner never to mix with the others. In two years time, 22 kids have never once scrimmaged or played against the other 22 in the same age group. 8-10 year olds. That's completely f'ked up.

They've been hestitant to make too many changes in the past to hurt feelings or piss off the over-bearing parents. This is the perfect out for a clean slate. Instead of relying on a judgement of somebody that never was even around once the season started 3 years later. It's a bit ridiculous.

For those players going to other team's practices, aren't you a bit worried your Club will find out and screw your kid because of it?

Soccer is a small world. Most of the coaches at the Clubs in the area know one another and talk.

We are planning to tryout a few new places to check things out, but I wouldn't go as far to contact other coaches because I'm afraid it would get back to our club and they'd screw my kid over when we aren't yet 100% certain we are leaving.

Hey Asshole, he's already gotten offers at two clubs A teams. We'd actually like to see the practices/coaches in action before making a commitment.

Don't you have a young ref to yell at?
