This is why Beth is the best Pearson by a mile. I was howling with laughter at her detective work. |
I think Jon Huertas mentioned in an interview that Miguel's back story was relegated to S6 because of the two episodes that were cut for S5 due to the pandemic. I felt from that FaceBook message exchange after Tess's birth that Rebecca and Miguel's love story would be really beautiful. It was also realistic about how older friends/lovers reconnect - long phone calls while they eat their dinners, etc. I love how Rebecca made the first move.

| How old was Rebecca when she had the kids? Trying to figure out timeline. |
Yeah, this seems like poorly manufactured drama so they can draw back upon Rebecca choosing Kate to make decisions for her. Rebecca is living in a house designed with her mobility in mind, with an established routine and full time nurse. She doesn't need to move. Randall needs to make arrangements so he can be closer to her, not the other way around. |
Exactly. But Kevin is the only one with the time to oversee her care, yet his kids live in LA. Which means there really is no ideal scenario here. |
My best guess is that this is where Nicky comes in, with Kevin going back and forth weekly and the other kids coming as they are able. |
I think she was 30, in 1980. I am not sure if she and Jack married in 1974 or 1976 thinking back. |
They were both there in all the scenes. In the house at Christmas, the sister was in the kitchen with Kate, Kevin and Sophie (tan sweater), and in the living room, his wife was in the chair to his left (red sweater over dark blouse). And on the porch steps, it’s him, his wife to his left a step above him, and then his sister on the right end of the porch. Then, in the post-funeral shot (I assume - they’re all in black), it’s the 5 kids - 3 Pearsons, Andy and Amber - with Rebecca looking at the apple tree. And finally, in the two scenes spreading the ashes, it’s Kate, Randall and Amber spreading them under the apple tree, and Kevin and Andy on the island where he grew up spreading them on the baseball field. |
| Mandy Moore is on 1A on WAMU right now! |
| I loved this episode. |
Subtitles and Facebook posts, as noted. |

Good episode. Yes, it’s clear now that Nicky is her caregiver so she can remain in the new PA cabin because none of the kids make sense. And obviously he has the wedding ring because he’s now married. I hope they don’t spend all of next episode fighting to get to this conclusion.
Gosh, Beth Pearson needs her own show. She’s the best. The big 3 are my age (41) and this is how I understand timeline- Big 3 born- Rebecca is 30 Jack died- Rebecca was 46, big three were 16 When Miguel left for TX- Rebecca was about 50 and big three were 20 (bc Randall in middle of college then) Miguel found her on FB- 8 years later so that would make Rebecca 58 and the big three 28 when they walked in on them kissing Kate’s wedding- 5 years into future so that means Rebecca is 76 and big three are 46 Miguel’s death- I think it seems to be 1-2 years after Kate’s wedding. ?? So Rebecca 78ish, big three 48ish, and Tess would be 20 (in college) |
Weren't the Big 3 born in 1980? They are no longer 41. Remember the seasons would always start with their birthdays? |

Wow. One of the BEST This Is Us episodes. Certainly the best since William's death. So beautiful...the full arc of a life. Hit me on so many levels. So wonderful to see 50-somethings find love after all the knocks they've been through in life. So beato see Miguel's devotion. The Billy Joel song couldn't have been better placed...plodding melody...leading to the inevitable end. The highs of loving someone creates the lows of losing someone. The window into the reality of aging... the very real reality for most women of outliving their husbands.
I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it. Any television show that can touch so many emotions in 60 minutes is uniquely high calibre. I see awards for Jon Huertas (?) from this episode. |
