If you send RP5 to their closest school, you could close Ritchie Park completely send all the kids from RP to ES#5 and still be under capacity there.

Board should look into that option instead of wasting money for the unnecessary ES school in RM cluster.

But this is not feasbile RIGHT NOW. And your statements seem contradictory... send RP kids minus FG to ES#5, then mcps doesn't need to waste money for the unnecessary new ES in the cluster? If we don't have the "unnecessary new ES for the RM cluster" then how do we send the rest of the RP kids to the non existent new ES?

oh... I got it... you mean RP becomes an unnecessary school.

And what is the travel time for students on those buses now? It's not about bus pick up time, it's travel time. Are they 4 miles away from Beall (serious question, I have no idea)?

Since some trolls started talking that those bus route won't exist next year, let me stick to one example which will exist next year.

Route: 5313 - FALLSMEAD ES (GREEN) Start time : 8:07 A.M first stop End time 8:40 ..... That's 33 minutes of bus ride , right here in nearby school.

It was blown out of proportion by RP parents as if Fallsgrove is suffering too much and no other kids suffer this much and I actually believed it.

? I'm sorry, but why are you bringing in a different ES in a different cluster into this discussion? Lots of kids from all over have long bus rides because of the gerrymandering.

Because MCPS is one system. Many RP parents claimed that Fallsgrove kids got the worst deal in MCPS and cross XYZ elementary.

Just trying to put their ride time in perspective here. Many time question was asked "would you allow your kindergarten kids to ride 15-20 minutes.

I hope that question is not asked by any RP parent in future after looking at above bus times. Lots of kindergarten kids spend much longer than Falls grove kids. Many do it right now in Beall and many will do it in various MCPS schools.

Does that mean I advocate for long bus ride for Fallsgrove. Absolutely not. I was making sure that folks keep some perspective and not blow it out of proportion.

Just because you feel that it doesn't matter, it is the number of FARMS kids per regular class that are going to make a difference in their education. Is not how good the statistics looks per school.

Then why do they put all these programs in lower performing schools if it doesn't make a difference?

They need to put programs in some school, so they pick one that has the space.

Agreed that there are plenty of kids who have long bus rides, BUT, if those kids were living in an area that is going to be rezoned, don't you think the parents would try to push for their area to be rezoned to a closer school, certainly not bused further away to increase their bus time.

RP first stop in Fallsgove is at - Route: 5120 - RITCHIE PARK ES (SILVER) - 8:18 AM

I think high income parents are able to make so much noise as if no other kids take a long bus ride. Otherwise, just take a look at some of the bus routes starting within RM cluster for Beall elementary.

Here is start time for some Beall elementary,

BEALL ES (PURPLE GRAPES) - 8:15 AM

BEALL ES (BLACK CAT) - 8:09 AM

BEALL ES (GREEN SHAMROCK) - 8:15 AM

How many posters here raised issue for those kids? I guess none because those kids are not rich kids and don't attend RP.

My daughter is on Black Cat. I didn't even know we were more unfortunate than RP5.

Where are you located? Are you keeping that up after boundary changes. Do you stay the same, decrease, or increase? Would you be happy if you increase? Also, doesn't your bus drop off early at Beall to get get kids from College Gardens? Some are there at 8:35am.

My bus ride is increasing in all alternative. I am not happy to see increase, but I am not going to complain because road change means some bus time change will happen.

All the bus time I listed for Beall, they reach Beall at 8:40 just like any other bus. Bus can go anywhere after that, you can see the total time here. It's 30+ minutes for one route.

Not quite . With CI ES5 is a couple of kids over capacity. But the point is well made. With future redistricting at Crown RP has a capacity problem. I wouldn't be surprised seeing T3 getting bused over there in a few years.

I don't think FG compromises 50% of RP. Even if you put FG in a different cluster, if you put the rest of RP in ES#5 I think it would be over capacity.

Parents should always try to push for a shorter ride. I was just saying that claim of Fallsgrrove having an extra ordinary bus ride is not true. That's the impression I got after talking to few parents during the testimony.

There are lots of more unfortunate routes than the route Fallsgrove kids take. They don't get highlighted. All those routes should be talked loudly.

But in option E, it looks like they will have the longest bus ride, and even if they choose option B, they will have one of the longest bus rides in RM cluster.

RP5 is needed to keep Ritchie Park from shutting down. RP5 is 43% of Ritchie Park population . The RP5 children and parent must suffer the crazy long bus ride so RP1,RP3 and RP4 get to keep their neighborhood school.

That without RP2 and RP6 which are getting moved.

? If RP5 moved, RP would be at capacity. That's what the options are showing.

Nope , if RP2 moved now ( almost a certainty) and RP5 moved later during Crown redistricting (4-5 years)

RP will be shut down for under capacity , or move in ES5 ( which would be ironic)

There is zero guarantee that Crown will open up in 4 to 5 years. And even if they did, there is such a thing as split articulation where an ES or MS in one cluster ends up going to a different cluster for MS or HS. Example, Cabin John MS - kids split between Churchill and Wootton when they get to HS.

FG could be part of RM cluster for ES then end up as part of Crown HS. Are they building a new ES for Crown HS cluster? The Gaithersburg area ESs are already over capacity. No way they will pull FG into an already overcrowded Gaithersburg ES.
