Seriously, each alternative had its pros and cons. Not everything needs to be couched in terms of 'winners' and 'losers'.

The issue is that HH residents are all over Facebook declaring themselves winners / victors / champions. They are all virtually high-fiving each other over keeping RP2 and by extension RP6 out -- and we as parents see that stuff even as we dry our kids tears that they are losing their friends next year.

--RP6 resident

That can't be true. There is one HH parent over here claiming that s/he wanted Alternative E and wrote that to the board. You cannot paint all HH parents with one brush.

Do you really believe this or the person is even from RP6? There is no virtual high five going on. Just checked the PTA Facebook page. None.

I live in HH, and we have a FB page. Just went on it. A couple of people had posted that Option B passed, then a few people responded with a sigh of relief, a yay or two (again, because option C didn't pass). Maybe five people? There's a collective sigh of relief that option C didn't pass. That's about it. No big celebration that B passed. Is that ^PP who claims that HH folks are all over FB high fiving each other a HH resident? Can you post the link that shows HH folks high fiving each other that B passed? If you are part of HH FB page I should be able to access it.

I'll remind people again that most people in HH didn't have a strong opinion about the options prior to Option C coming out. There wasn't much talk about it at the bus stops. Once option C came out, then yes, this community galvanized to oppose option C, again, no strong preference for any other option, except that people felt bad for FG if they had to get bussed even further away.

I hope this is put to a rest now.

no, I'm not all that interested because 1. my kids will be in MS by then 2. there is no point in outting anyone and making people from uncomfortable.

I don't challenge anyone who says walkability is #1 because to them, it is #1. Who am I to tell them their opinions don't matter? Just as I wouldn't want someone to tell me my opinion doesn't matter.

Vote is over. People provided their input, and BOE has decided. Done deal. Get over your anger or it's going to be a long 5 years for you.

Well, that's one person who deserves to be made uncomfortable. S/he is most likely part of the PTA leadership. Was s/he expressing the position of one person or the position of the PTA leadership? These are all questions that the RPES community has to deal with.

I'm the RP2 parent again. You're so far off and I'm not sure why you care about RP so much, but to be clear RPES community isn't dealing with anything. RP2 gets to go to a new neighborhood school and most everyone else is unaffected, so basically everyone is okay with this. There is no drama at RP. We always assumed we were going anyway and happy to get a neighborhood school. My guess is you are projecting whatever issues are going on at your school onto RP. Again, worry about yourself.

I don't even know what the "I'm the RP2 parent again." person is talking about. But I like the fact that when you reply, you use a tiny font and unbalanced quotes so it's easy to recognize you. How many more pages can this thread go???

Let's try for 200. I'm sure this will get resurrected again when the new school opens. I can't wait for Crown HS zoning. The thread on that one will be just as fun. /s

Downtown Crown is pretty far from most of the RM cluster. Woot on is closer.

But MCPS just cancelled RMs addition due to Crown. Fallsgrove and Kings Farm will leave the cluster IMO

Parts of Gaithersburg will move to Crown (mostly FARMS)
The entire King Farm will finally go to Gaithersburg together
Fallsgrove will move to Crown
Dufief will get updated/expanded and all parts originally Wootton (not in Kentlands/Lakeland’s) will move on to Crown.

So what would that do to the demographics of Crown, RM, and QO?

Should this be taken over to the Crown prediction thread?

But I would think for RM, the FARMs rate would go up as both King Farm and FG is mostly upper income.

So if Kings Farm leaves CG, does CG3 get to move back??

If there is enough pressure due to overcrowding then entire CG may be part of Crown. It depends on RM cluster total crowd.

Wasteful discussion. This is so far off, who knows when the school will finally get built. It could be years and by the way, it is simply going to be a high school. No new elementary or middle schools are going to be built with matriculation to it. Guessing that FG would be thrilled to go to the new school. Highly doubt that King Farm wants to continue feeding into Gaithersburg HS.

They aren’t going to let only high income families in that school and they need to severely decrease Gaithersburg’s FARMS which is now close to 50%. I agree that the entire neighborhood will end up in Gaithersburg. Since half already does, it is a no brainer. They are actually closer to Gaithersburg than Crown anyway.

I personally think this is why King Farm was so against A. Much easier to move them when CG is over capacity than under.

They will surely move some of the FARMS kids from Gaithersburg and QO to crown, but I think that crown high will still be mostly high income families.

If RM cluster has too many kids by then and CG population declines as well then WG can have their wish to be part of CG by going back and entire CG can join Crown Farm. That way Crown Farm will have an IB elementary school in their cluster as well.

Yah, that way WG can be a part of CG and entire WG will be very happy. Too many of them wanted to remain in CG and I think BOE should strongly consider it if CG numbers allows for WG to join back.

FallsGrove and CG leaving RM will allow enough room for growth in RM cluster, but I am not sure when CF will come to start with.

Anonymous wrote:The PTA email was not gunning for a 7.5% FARMS and neither were parents. Talk about twisting someone’s words. Hopefully I can put this to bed…

Ritchie Park is overcapacity and needs to relocate approx 150 kids and RP2 is about 150 kids and located in the walk zone of the new school. So this was a no brainer.

The PTA email was simply explaining to their school why then there were maps developed that had RP2 staying at Ritchie Park and RP5 (Fallsgrove) going to the new school instead. The email said this was to show a map that would increase FARMS at Ritchie Park. That’s it. It was a fact. That is why those maps were created. The email then went on to state that the higher FARMS map came at the cost of barring RP2 from the new school in their neighborhood and moved RP5 farther instead. Finally it stated that while moving RP2 does result in a lower FARMS at RP, it is still in line with other surrounding schools, so not too low based on its location (Ritchie Park sits on the Potomac line) and raising the FARMS isn't worth barring RP2 from the new school.

In summary, this email was developed to explain to the Ritchie Park community why the maps were created and the affects they would have. That’s it. I don’t know if the confusion and negative response surrounding this email was the result of misunderstanding or a bad game of telephone, but this is what happened. It is a shame that some would take this and twist it and then make accusations that RP wants their FARMs kids out. Also, I’d just like to point out that receiving a free or reduced meal doesn’t make you undesirable. It doesn’t make you less smart. It doesn’t make you a burden on the class. It is offensive that people would say that Ritchie Park wants a lower FARMS.

This is a very nice explanation: "Many options on the table have RP5 going to the new school and RP2 being bused away from the new school in their community back to Ritchie Park. This is in an effort to increase FARMS at Ritchie Park. In BOE Alt #2, Ritchie Park will still have a greater FARMS than all surrounding schools and to increase that by forcing RP2 out of their neighborhood and busing RP5 past another elementary school isn't fair to anyone." No, they were not gunning for 7%.

Agreed this will also help lower the farms rate at Gaithersburg (if that's where they go) and increase the FARMs at RM. These are very low farms neighborhoods so should make farms more even between the high schools. RM is not as social economically diverse as Gaithersburg currently this should help.

Well, than I know a lot of families that will be leaving King Farm. They don't want to go to Gaithersburg.

It won't be the same high school at that point. It could have a FARMS rate similar to RM. Remember RMs FARMS rate will increase if they lose KF.
