First rodeo. I’ve looked at lottery results from previous years, but any perspectives on where we could land from the seasoned veterans?

Good change you'll get in everywhere except Yu Ying and Stokes.

Agree. But not great chances for Mundo.

Is this still your true preference order? You can also reorder them now if you want.

Matched at Ludlow-Taylor for PK3 (with inbound + sibling preference). Not surprising, given the preference, but the outcome we had wanted for a long time. Here’s hoping that we have a semi-normal PK3 year.

Any possibility of getting off a waitlist for Kindergarten (Spanish Dominant) at Oyster Adams. Very low number, but assuming we shouldnt get excited about it???

I haven’t changed anything yet. Is there a strategy for doing this? Apologies for the potentially dumb question!

7 Dorothy I. Height Elementary School Match

We're excited about Height (!) though concerned about the prospect of a year of virtual learning and debating keeping him at JCC. <commence gnashing of teeth>

My priorities were Spanish for Pre-K and a school near Spanish daycare for my younger daughter, or somewhere both could attend together. We may not live in DC forever so I was less concerned about K-5.

Lotto results anticlimactic because I ranked Bethune 16th St first and matched. I think that's good news? We liked the Spanish and location. Trying to connect with other parents there to learn more. Nearby daycare could be Mana or Estrellitas. Also would love to do free Pre-K at Estrellitas -- on waitlist.

We have spots at Communikids in Cathedral Heights (daycare for younger and "free" pre-k for older -- lots of extra costs for food and before/aftercare, but they have been operating during pandemic). Any thoughts on whether Communikids would be better, or Bethune+daycare?

Thanks!

Have you looked at CentroNia for both? It has a free PK program like Communikids. It can sometimes be hard to get into the daycare, but we have had good experiences in the daycare and PK program. With a kid in the PK program you might get a bump on the daycare waitlist.

This could be an aberration but we were at Cap City for the last two years and it was not all it’s cracked up to be. Don’t count on them opening full time in the fall and our DD cycled through three teachers this year because two left out of the blue. If you’re happy where you are, you should stay.

Height has kids back 3 days a week now. So that’s promising.

11 justifiable acts still leaves you outside looking in. Commit.

You are thinking too narrowly. You can also eliminate current/returning students as well. Why limit your murderous rampage to just those in the lottery queue?

This isn’t funny given the current climate with school shootings

Jesus Christ. Current climate? Current since when? Let’s not act like there’s anything new going on in America right now.

Good grief, DCUM is a beacon for humorless uptight parents.

#1 Oyster Adams K waitlist English dominant

Any feedback on the school academics and administrators? We put it as our first choice but clearly never expected to get even a reasonable waitlist spot so we don’t know much about the intricacies other than it’s good. How does it compare to the other NW schools like Janney, Key, or Lafayette?

From what I know, the school is so crowded they often take zero waitlist kids especially not English dominant. So, hope you put in for others too.

Is a waitlist number of 38, 35, 26 considered decent? Is there a realistic chance of getting off the waitlist with one of these numbers?
