I think that depends solely on how happy you are with Stokes and what your commute is like. Hard to answer in general terms, unless you have specific questions about JOW.

Friendship PCS Woodridge for PK4. Has anyone sent their kid there?

#259 - Lamb, Kingsbury
#2 - Powell (IB)
#153 - DCB

Also WL at a few others past hope.

Matched at Dorothy Height, which we were impressed by at Open Houses for PK3, and is close. I'll keep a very very slim hope for Powell.

We almost chose Dorothy Height over our IB school. I love everything about it, particularly the leader and teachers!!

No, but Friendship schools are usually fine.

Matched at Cap City, waitlists numbers are in the 50s and 60s for Stokes, Inspired and Lee. Not a chance, right?

Stokes- Brookland (Spanish)- 34
Lee- 16
Mundo Verde-29
Shining stars - 15
Burroughs - 6

First rodeo. I’ve looked at lottery results from previous years, but any perspectives on where we could land from the seasoned veterans?

Good change you'll get in everywhere except Yu Ying and Stokes.

Agree. But not great chances for Mundo.

No. Some schools more more than others, but there are a lot of factors and it can vary from year to year which move more.

FWIW, we're at ELH Elementary and have been very impressed with our experience and the cross campus leadership. They have been cautious about re-opening but explain their rationale and approach. Currently their plan is to make sure all students return to IPL in the fall with the option to remain virtual should they choose.

Thanks for this! Do you happen to know the strength of the SPED team? Many years ago I heard great things. My child has an IEP and struggles with school refusal due to anxiety, mainly from covid.

Anonymous wrote:PK3 mom here and this all super new to me. We are moving to DC this summer and planned to rent near whatever school worked out. My priorities were Spanish for Pre-K and a school near Spanish daycare for my younger daughter, or somewhere both could attend together. We may not live in DC forever so I was less concerned about K-5.

Lotto results anticlimactic because I ranked Bethune 16th St first and matched. I think that's good news? We liked the Spanish and location. Trying to connect with other parents there to learn more. Nearby daycare could be Mana or Estrellitas. Also would love to do free Pre-K at Estrellitas -- on waitlist.

We have spots at Communikids in Cathedral Heights (daycare for younger and "free" pre-k for older -- lots of extra costs for food and before/aftercare, but they have been operating during pandemic). Any thoughts on whether Communikids would be better, or Bethune+daycare?

Thanks!

In order to accept your Bethune lottery slot you will need to PROVE DC residency by May 3rd. Good luck!

We were surprised to match at Cap City, which we thought was a longshot. At Breakthrough now and having a good experience, but now have a big choice to make. Schools are the about the same distance from our house. Is it worth a move for the path through Middle and High?
