South Asian here who went to prep school. Husbands family is 1/2 really wasp- the full thing, family money, debutante blah blah. Most commercially available clothes no longer suit the wasp aesthetic. Maybe brooks brothers before private equity bought them. My husband and MIL constantly bemoan it. My MIL just recently got stitch fix and seemed pleased. The true wasps didn’t have that many children, so they have really faded away. What’s left is remnants of an important time in American history. Most people referred to on this board are just copying the wasp aesthetic but are not truly wasps. The wasps that are left have gone into cultural hiding various pockets all over the country. |
Stitch Fix?!?! That overpriced crap? |
Also not a lot of shows of emotion, just a lot of complaining between gritted teeth and fake nice. The frozen chosen. |
I can’t think of anything less waspy than getting your monthly box of overpriced polyester from stitch fix. |
Such a weird, narrow group. I mean, I’m descended from them, too, but it’s just so insular. |
They possess the wasp aesthetic yes, but will never be of it. |
GHWB and his kids. Periodt. |
Look at you proclaiming “they will never be of it!” Who is the poster who said y’all are just discussing wasp aesthetic, not aspiring to it? BS-this PP and every other striver breathlessly discussing what is wasp culture and who qualifies as wasp is proof otherwise. |
check out Marina Rust - she pretty closely portrays the Gen X-era WASP lifestyle/look. |
That’s what I’m saying- things have devolved style wise for the wasps. |
Yeah look up any old picture of the full bush clan taken in kennebunkport and that’s it. GHWB and Barbara Bush Sr were both super WASPs. |
Absolutely. He was the real deal. |
Full bush does seem WASPy. Natural, not trendy. You’re on to something, PP. |
It’s interesting that some consider Jackie Kennedy to be waspy. I would think she was way too chic and fashion forward for a wasp. |
She was too much of a Francophile. |
