In our experience, even if you get everything right, it repeats the same thing over and over again. |
"ST Math was created by MIND’s co-founder neuroscientist, who experienced a learning challenge due to dyslexia and struggled with not only reading, but also math because of the heavy use of words and symbols in traditional math education."
---- Is this the reason that ST Math has no direction? "A recent analysis of ST Math students in Texas found dramatic improvements on percent of students meeting proficiency on the state’s STAAR test school performance metrics for students in the special education subgroup. Between 2014 and 2017, at 25 schools using ST Math, the rate of students in special education meeting or exceeding state standards for math proficiency increased from 9.9% to 23%. When compared to the special education subgroup results in similar schools over the same time period, matched for math performance and socio-economic status, the program effect size was also a dramatic 0.75." ----- So all students registered in FCPS are now accepting special education in Math? |

Maybe that's why there is so much endless mind-numbing repetition? Interesting find. |
No, that's because it's an math app that's designed not to get far ahead of the class. |
So its an "adaptive" math program that tries to slow down kids by repetition? |
Typically, children with dyslexia have strong spatial perception. So there's no reason to complain about a math app for that reason. |
Well the study was just generic kids with special needs. Not dyslexia-specific. |
after a week of petals for my 5th grader, I just told him to do ten minutes on Kahn academy whenever he’s supposed to do st math, and read a real book whenever he’s supposed to do that imagine learning. |
Yeah we don’t even mess with ST Math. 10 minutes of Khan is miles beyond that crap. |
WOW I THOUGHT YOU GUYS WERE EXAGGERATING. Child started yesterday, still on petals, 5th grade AAP math. |
My kid has figured out he can pull up st math, click every five minutes, and read a book under the desk. The teacher wants them signed into the classroom while mindlessly clicking petals. |
Can someone explain this to me. What are the levels. What does pedals mean or penguins? My middle schooler is assigned to do this and it seems like a waste. Does not even have the concepts he is learning. |
It is a complete waste of a middle schoolers time. Most schools seem to not be adjusting the levels, so all the kids are starting on first grade. There is a lot of mindless repetition. |
I love you! Now can somebody explain the levels? They have given us no information, but they assign it for HW every single time, even if it has NOTHING to do with the lesson. |
