This is why people find Gwyneth Paltrow insufferable

That said, I see the “reading comprehension” weirdo is on here so I will see myself out.

That last sentence made me laugh out loud. Thanks for that!

This is literally how every thread about women on the entertainment forum goes. Some people like Celebrity X and some don't. If you criticize Meghan Markle you are a racist bitter shrew who wishes Harry married you. If you don't like Hilaria Baldwin you are jealous. The Bindi Irwin thread is a dumpster fire for some reason. Wash, rinse, repeat. But, to be fair, most (not all) comments about these women, and certainly in this GP thread, are about their looks and nothing else of substance. Too blond, basic, boring, had plastic surgery, thin, white, WASPy. Men don't attack other men for extra pounds, thinning hair, wrinkles, aging badly, etc.

Listen I agree with you about the way this thread treats women. 100%. But Gwyneth Paltrow has been saying something out of touch, pimping some tyle of dr oz nonsense, or talking about how she'll only ever use la mer facecream and doesn't understand why anyone wouldn't for decades. She is, uniquely, someone almost universally thought to be elitist and arrogant.

The dislike of her isn't based on her gender, or her race, or her religion, or her body, its based on her words and actions and how she profits off misleading people.

Paltrow is clueless, entitled, and dumb, dumb, dumb.

Yes, she is all these things.

I do think she is beautiful, though, in a way that I admire and that is rare. Her personality is insufferable, but I don't understand why people think she's plain.

Obviously different strokes and all but she looks very plain to me without makeup- literally like every other white mom in my neighborhood I see- going to work, walking their dogs, out with kids etc.
Maybe taller than average but that is the only thing that might be 'rare'.
Don't know enough about her to opine about her character.

I have never looked at Goop and I'm not a fan of Gwyneth, but I do think she is beautiful, and it is more than just being taller than average. The normal white moms in your neighborhood might also be tall and thin and blonde, but Gwyneth's bone structure is truly exquisite. That's a difference that doesn't jump out at you, but if you saw her next to one of the normal blonde, thin, tall moms in your neighborhood, I'm sure that the difference would be discernible, even if most people couldn't say exactly why Gwyneth looked better. The shape of her lower face especially, and her long neck, etc. It isn't about coloring at all, and she'd still have that beauty if she were carved from stone. The normal white moms in your neighborhood can keep themselves slim, but there's something about gorgeously wrought limbs and bone structure that gives an extra oomph, and you can't buy that.

You are one of the few criticizing her based on her words and actions, which is fair game. The rest are not and are getting called out on it.

A lot of energy spent on hate on this thread. An FYI to the person posting the picture with Harvey Weinstein...she has said said that she stopped acting because of him. She couldn't see a way to stay with him in Hollywood. Rather than throw old photos about that mean nothing, try to have some empathy with women who have been in impossible situations because of the patriarchy.

For someone with her wealth , to look like she does is really nothing to write home about . I mean, what is there that's so striking ? Martha Stewart might be an ex-felon but she was right when she said

' she just needs to be quiet— she's a movie star. If she were confident in her acting ,she wouldn't be trying to be Martha Stewart .'

Oh PLEASE. You use as an example someone who's mad she's trying to be HER? Wow, I know this thread doesn't need another post about being jealous of Gwyneth Paltrow but ....

What is with the bizarre punctuation above? Is this a troll's calling card?

If you like her, fine, but it's just a harmless thread with people venting about a celeb. I doubt the Gwynnie lovers are going to convert anyone.

All of this "you must be jealous! you must be bitter!" seems totally over the top.

But do you really think these are GP fans? I sense that there are a lot of contrarians on here who just like to make assumptions and throw around accusations to stir the pot. Who are those types of people called again....???

I’m not a fan or contrarian. The “insufferable” bit just seems really extreme. I don’t understand at all. It’s like women feel like they matter more by disliking her. It’s a weird pile on.

How is she misleading people? If you can't afford La Mer face cream then don't buy it. She is rich. La Mer face cream is for rich people, not the rest of us.

She's a bore and her 15 minutes of fame ended like 20 years ago. The only reason she's still sort of famous is because she sunk her claws into Chris Martin.

Sunk her claws? He married her, didn't he? This is why people assume you are jealous, because why else would you talk like that?

I actually don't care about Gwyneth Paltrow at all, and have only thought in passing that she was pretty. So maybe I am a troll.

She regularly does things that imply she just can’t conceive of why someone wouldn’t buy it (like they need to pay rent). If she was just a rich lady using la mer no one would care. If she was yelling just rich people to use la mer no one would care. But she acts like she provides more universal advice, she frames her brand as accessible. But it is not, so she comes across as elitist and out of touch. Who on earth doesn’t understand that the vast majority of the country cannot purchase la mer? Someone out of touch who has never wanted for money.
