This is literally how every thread about women on the entertainment forum goes. Some people like Celebrity X and some don't. If you criticize Meghan Markle you are a racist bitter shrew who wishes Harry married you. If you don't like Hilaria Baldwin you are jealous. The Bindi Irwin thread is a dumpster fire for some reason. Wash, rinse, repeat. But, to be fair, most (not all) comments about these women, and certainly in this GP thread, are about their looks and nothing else of substance. Too blond, basic, boring, had plastic surgery, thin, white, WASPy. Men don't attack other men for extra pounds, thinning hair, wrinkles, aging badly, etc.

Listen I agree with you about the way this thread treats women. 100%. But Gwyneth Paltrow has been saying something out of touch, pimping some tyle of dr oz nonsense, or talking about how she'll only ever use la mer facecream and doesn't understand why anyone wouldn't for decades. She is, uniquely, someone almost universally thought to be elitist and arrogant.

The dislike of her isn't based on her gender, or her race, or her religion, or her body, its based on her words and actions and how she profits off misleading people.

How is she misleading people? If you can't afford La Mer face cream then don't buy it. She is rich. La Mer face cream is for rich people, not the rest of us.

She regularly does things that imply she just can’t conceive of why someone wouldn’t buy it (like they need to pay rent). If she was just a rich lady using la mer no one would care. If she was yelling just rich people to use la mer no one would care. But she acts like she provides more universal advice, she frames her brand as accessible. But it is not, so she comes across as elitist and out of touch. Who on earth doesn’t understand that the vast majority of the country cannot purchase la mer? Someone out of touch who has never wanted for money.

Come on. All the bloggers do this. They regularly buy crap they can't afford, pose with it with tags still attached but hidden, and then return it. Is that not promoting an unaffordable lifestyle and just a big fat lie? Gwyneth is not evil and tricking people any more than any other lifestyle guru wannabe.

GP has a far larger platform than the average influencer. And she can afford this stuff. It is nothing to her to buy almost any material item. She is not actually buying a Carolina Herrera and keeping the tags on until she can return it. She’s buying 20k worth of Carolina Herrera and saying you just have to to because she sells the softest shirts! Not because she’s trying to be aspirational but because she literally doesn’t understand the kind of life where one cannot spend $450 on a button down. She acts like the difference between gap and Gucci is personal preference. That obliviousness is offensive to many.

She also doesn’t just try to hawk crap like la mer (she one recommended a 15k vibrator!), she also offers medical advice. Bad medical advice that actual doctors frequently, strongly, disagree with. And she takes credit for mainstreaming things like yoga, a centuries old discipline! She believes she’s that important and that level of self absorption just turns people off.

So Once again she’s an elitist, out of touch, arrogant snake oil salesmen

Oh, honey. You have deep, deep insecurity issues if you think she's talking to you (or anyone else) and saying anything of the sort. She is simply talking about products she enjoys, like any other blogger (as another poster pointed out). There seems to be something deeply wrong with you to take all of this so very personally. Do you react this way to every celebrity who has a "brand" or sells something? Do you get upset that Jennifer Garner is "hawking" Neutrogena and "telling" you to buy it? How about Eva Longoria "hawking" L'Oreal? PLEASE seek help and stop using the term "snake oil salesman" over and over. You just sound like an idiot with a huge chip on your shoulder.

You mistake my rage at the consolidation of wealth in this country, a consolidation that grows by the day and results in children starving and people unable to afford their medications or their children’s education as ‘insecurity’

There is an entire cultural movement enraged at people who’ve don’t understand the value of a dollar to someone who has none. And that has nothing to do with her face.

Oh come on, that's not your real problem. This is much broader than GP, and would include every extremely wealthy person. Are you also directing this rage at the Clintons? The Obamas? Christie Brinkley? Jon Stewart?

Of course GP is not solely responsible for this. The Obamas are not out there trying to become richer off making suburban housewives buy an $84 amethyst crystal infused water bottle (a real thing on her website!). Jon Stewart spends most of his life now raising goats, making documentaries and donating to the victims of 9/11 while ALSO raging about wealth inequality.

I do not resent the fact that rich people exist. I am not anti capitalist. It is fine that rich people exist. But when rich people live their lives in a way where they don't understand what its like to not be rich, and spend their time advocating for things that make them even richer with minimal effort and make the poor even poorer despite that person working three jobs, that is a problem. And people like Gwyneth Paltrow, who make a LOT of money by acting like that $84 water bottle is no big thing and ABSOLUTELY will change your life, and who act like because they did yoga once they created a multimillion dollar industry, those people are just a part of the machine that many Americans are growing to absolutely loathe. It isn't necessary GP herself, you are right, there are tons of her. But this is why people hate her, she is a poster child for this phenomenon much more so than Christie Brinkley, who is rich and probably sells a line of Tequila but isn't pushing her lifestyle on the American people every other week.

People were crying about the election result in 2016 and she called it 'exciting' (https://www.thecut.com/2016/11/gwyneth-paltrow-thinks-the-election-result-is-exciting.html).

Anyway, to sum it up it isn't the rich people that are the problem, its the system that reinforces their wealth. And some rich people see that they have more than they could ever need and work to try to improve the world and others act like there is no problem and continue to grow their wealth. And those people are the problem and I think GP is one of those people. I'm sure she's perfectly nice one on one. I'm sure she gives to charity and that everyone who knows her thinks she's lovely, if a bit full of herself. But that blind spot that makes her a bit full of herself? That blind spot reinforces generations of poverty in this country and we need to hold the wealthy accountable for enacting change.

People have been right in this thread all along. The communist poster has class envy. She's beside herself the she's a "have not" and can't stand the "haves". She's jealous that GP is rich and successful and she's not.

Who the heck wants to read a blog with tips on how to wash and recycle plastic bags? Or reusing paper towels?

I highly doubt that. Shouldn't you be agitating on the politics forum? You seem to have lost your way.

How do you define a have not? I live in a 700k house, have access to a vacation home in a waspy new england locale and will likely inherit enough money when my parents pass to never worry about money again. Likely enough money to pass on generational wealth to my children.

I am currently in an argument with my mother about how she wants to put my K daughter in a private school but I feel this is unethical because it will contribute to inequality. So whatever, think of me how you will, but I am by virtually no definition of the word a 'have not'

Ok whatever you say. If you truly stood behind your values you would never accept the inheritance and you would never give a penny to your kids. But sure, deny your kid opportunities in the name of equity. And you are not Gwyneth's target market. A $700K house isn't as impressive as you seem to think it is. You sound hopelessly naive.

Please. I'm not going to list my home value but where I live you can't even buy a starter home for $700K. It's cute that PP thinks she's going to save the world by hating on bloggers.

I am not in a competition for wealth. I didn't say I was wealthy. I said I wasn't a have not. I don't live in DC or an urban area but that doesn't matter, anyone who can afford a 700k house should not consider themselves a have not. I wasn't trying to impress you, just impress upon you that I am not unable to buy an $84 crystal water bottle if I wanted one. My ire at her is not based in jealously. I assume even you are not at her level of, 'buy a yacht' wealth.

This is why I find her revolting.

I'm actually with GP on the politics point. I'm disgusted with both sides and would like a commonsense, moderate candidate of integrity. Since that seems impossible to come by, I will continue voting Dem but only because Trump and his MAGA cultists are callous, greedy and downright morally reprehensible. Give me someone truly in the middle, who cares about workers and middle class pocketbook issues, and also has anti-crime policies, and I'm there.

You resurrected a six-year-old thread to complain about her participation in an ad for an apartment complex? Pathetic.

Agree with this. Someone who isn't mired in identity politics but doesn't attack vulnerable populations either.
