Given how Barr has acted in his role as AG, all I can say is I’ve never had more respect for Jeff Sessions than I do right now. And I never thought I’d say that.

He’s been one of the few Trump officials whose reputation is still fully in tact. He’s not responsible for Berman being pushed out before his confirmation, but I’m sure the stink of this will rub off.

I wonder if he pulls his name, especially with Graham’s statement calling into question whether the Senate will move forward with the nomination given how this was done.

Yes, if Clayton wants to keep his good reputation he should pull his name.

You obviously haven't been paying attention to his Senate campaign. Trump is supporting his opponent, so Sessions is simultaneously trying to be loyal to Trump while encouraging voters to go against Trump's endorsement of his opponent. It is delightful.

Except when their "acting" terms is extended by the Court. The law is fairly plain in stating that the court appointed replacement is only superseded by a Senate confirmed replacement.

Do you mean activist judges like Sullivan?

You don't think Roberts was activist in Heller? I have some news for you...

Negative, however we all know his activism in Obama care. Calling it a mandate to get it passed and a tax to uphold is clearly activism.

And it makes even less sense given how close we are to the election.

Clayton has been vetted and the senate can probably move reasonably quickly, but it seems silly and McConnell probably doesn’t want to have to make this a priority over getting judges confirmed, which will have a much longer lasting impact.

Clayton has been blue slipped by both NY Senators. He isn’t going anywhere. Now, neither is any other Trump pick.

Nonetheless, Sessions believes in the rule of law and Barr does not. I never thought this would be a question for any AG, but here we are.

McConnell can ignore the blue slip, but I’m not sure he will bother here.

If Barr did this without authorization from the President that is a massive overreach
Is SDNY investigating something that concerns Barr?

Are you now taking Trump at his word?

Blue slipping isn't a thing anymore. McConnell killed it.

Barr isn't a fool and puts the law above politics. Too bad the left doesn't after the Russian hoax, Impeachment, Rona...

Blue slips plural. Gellibrand and Schumer both. McConnell says he will respect blue slips here. I’m sure Clayton just wants this to go away.

My CNN scroll just said Berman had stepped down though.

Still can’t see the NY Senators letting Clayton through. Who is acting AG?

Apparently Lindsey Graham didn’t get the memo. He’s respecting the blue slips

Berman stepped down and now Strauss is the Acting US Attorney.

Berman respects the Department of Justice. Too bad neither the president nor the Attorney General do.
