PS: Give some grace to the OG. Jon and Sherry have been sharing their lives for 8+ years...what mom doesn’t need a break in 2020?!

Sorry, Sherry, you bought and renovated your shitshow of a house before the pandemic. No excuses!

If it bothers you so much why not just stop following them? Clearly you're drawn to them or else you wouldn't be so interested in the personal details of their lives.

To me this is a couple that has integrity and principles in an Instagram world where everyone is trying to shove a product down our throats. They are not chasing sponsors, trying to sell us dumb shit they get paid to promote, or trying to get a million social media followers like a lot of other grammers out there piss and moan about. Case in point: YHL is the ONLY home blogger I know that has given consistent attention to BIPOC business owners and bloggers since everyone hopped on that bandwagon in June to preserve their reputations and fell off shortly thereafter bc people stopped caring.

Y'all really need to stop -- especially going after their kids by saying they don't get out much and live a sheltered life. How dare you? I would have killed to have as much attention and affection they show their kids when I was growing up.

Have you SEEN the swipe ups in their instastories? They are totally making money off of their content.

LOL, stories. She adds at least 30 stories a day with swipe-ups in EVERY frame. It's obnoxious.

Who on instagram does not do swipe ups? And they do it bc they get thousands of messages from people asking to source everything, so why not make a quick penny off of it if they can? They are, after all, taking the time to curate and develop content for our enjoyment and inspiration. They're basically creating free ads for these companies to sell their products, so why not? You would do the same. And in the past they have done giveaways on their blog using the credits they accumulate from affiliate links. Not only that, they've shared the secrets again and again for how to start a successful blog. I see them as transparent and not willing to chase every partnership and sponsor that comes knocking on their door like so many other influencers that advertise any crap they're paid for.

Years ago, after their home goods line launched, I recall them saying they were slowing down the blogging as they wanted to protect more of their personal life. I figured their home line, books, etc. was a legit business and they had gotten too big to need to depend on the blog.

What happened since? Do they still have a home line? Did they run into money troubles maybe? I agree that FL house is a weird choice for people who love house design.

They still have a lighting fixture line at Shades of Light. Not half bad but priced low end.

I think it was a combination of money problems (at one point they owned four homes and probably were overextended) and needing to get away from Virginia (there was definitely something going on with Sherry a while back - some combination of eating disorder and mental breakdown - she was scarily thin and her instastories were so weird. I'm happy to see she's put on some weight in FL and appears normal weight now). I think most of their product collaborations are done - a while ago they were posting links to their Wayfair stuff on sale and being sold off on Amazon.

I enjoyed them way back in the day. I respected their decision to step away, when they intially did it. Since they've been back, I mostly find it really disappointing that they haven't improved or grown over the years. Years ago what they did was impressive because it was largely shoestring and they were beginners. They have tons of money and many many years of experience now but what they produce is really no better than when they started out. I don't hate on them for this, I just no longer follow. It did also seem like Sherry was peddling an eating disorder for awhile there, based on the times I'd see them mentioned and check in on their IG - which is disturbing, considering how many followers she has who would emulate anything she suggests. I wish them the best. Have to agree that the FL house makes NO sense, in so many ways, but if it "works for them" as Sherry would say, right on.

Can someone catch me up on their FL move? Did they move again? And what is this about condo buildings next door? And why is this house so tiny?

Omg some of you are truly terrible people. There are evil people doing reprehensible things out there, and you’re on here pecking at this family. So many bloggers and influencers have been acting like FOOLS during the pandemic, but not YHL. They are keeping themselves and others safe, as well as speaking up (finally) about racism and doing an amazing job supporting Black creators (which has still continued despite the trendiness of antiracism going away after the summer). Also, I’m low middle class and a lot of you just sound like snobs. Small, crappy house? What?! Come on down and visit us in the bottom half of the income brackets. That place is a palace compared to what most people have to work with, oftentimes with more people in their family. I read recently that wealthy people have less empathy and this thread is a case study for that concept.

Her Instagram stories have been weird again. And annoying (in my opinion)

She's soooooo annoying and super weird. Also, all this talk of minimalism and they keep buying more and more and more. How many pieces of furniture have they been through for that little sitting area at the front of their house?

This house is awful. It’s a shame because I feel that their design sense has come a long way. In the past, I thought that their homes were rather junky and failed to look at the whole house before. It seemed in the last few years (cape Charles, last Richmond house) everything started to come together. This place has just left me wondering WTH?? I can’t imagine it was $700,000 unless it’s right across from the beach. I mean it was barely a one bedroom and needed ton of work. I think the kids bedrooms and baths are the only thing decent about the home.
The upstairs is super small. When they build their guest house, they should put their office in their instead of a guest room. I would think they would need a larger living space, I mean that house is just way too small. I get the feeling that they realize that as well. Or maybe they should actually put their bedroom upstairs and build a bathroom on the deck. The family living space on beyond inadequate. Once the pool goes in, they will probably spend more time on the first floor and it will make more sense.
Sherry always seems really defensive about the house and their insane decisions as well. Like when she is questioned about mosquitoes and not having a screened in porch? Clearly you get mosquitoes in Florida! She claims they aren’t bothering them at all?? Also, I don’t understand why they put the Christmas tree in their bedroom. Who puts a family Christmas tree in the master bedroom??? Is this their long term plan for the house? This can’t possibly be their “forever “ house? I suspect they will probably flip this house and get something a bit bigger where they don’t have to celebrate Christmas in their bedroom.

I totally agree! She keeps buying more furniture! They had 4 houses worth of furniture. I don’t get why they had to buy a stick of furniture!! I mean all of their furniture is from Amazon, ikea or target, so it’s crap furniture anyway.

they moved last summer to Florida summer to a super small house with barely a kitchen or a living room.

I don’t think so. They still have lines at target and shades of light plus their book deal. They also outright owned their 4 houses. I think they just got on a downsizing kick and decided to move to Florida.
