The Morning Show-Apple TV

It’s sort of reminding me of “and just like that” with Kristen Davis… Maybe she had work done and it settled in by episode three? But I also know they film things out of sequence, so who knows. But I definitely felt like she looked more normal in episode three.

I would love to know what other work she’s had done besides her nose!

Uh the waitress got a tip if $20k. Anyone would have done it. If the guys had asked for her to sleep with them she would have.

Yes! My favorite part of this show.

+2 He really is excellent.

It makes me happy whenever he is in a scene because I know it's going to be great.

More Yanko!

I like Yanko but they need to ease up on the guyliner

I loathe Stella. Her voice, her haircut, her clothes, her personality.

Those are his actual eyes! https://www.glamour.com/story/is-this-lost-star-wearing-eyel

A long time ago I knew a guy whose eyes were the same way, and they were amazing. He was a news anchor in a small community where I lived. Maybe everyone whose eyes are like that belongs on TV.

I used to read recaps of Lost episodes on the website Television Without Pity (pour one out for the heyday of the Internet, IMO), and I think the recapped nicknamed his character "Guyliner," so this has been a fun reminder of back when I used to procrastinate on writing papers in the computer lounge (yes, young people, back in my day you had to go to a special room on campus to access a computer and internet!) in college by reading television recaps and arguing about the shows on the message boards.

So much has changed. Look at me now, arguing about shows on a message board on my very own computer in my very own house.

Still wearing sweatpants, though.

Agreed but it was a really strong episode all the way through. My thoughts:

- The scenes with Stella and the ad execs were definitely "major" and I think may be building up to something specific with Stella because we also know that she worked with Paul Marks back in the day and has referenced his lack of ethics. Will be interesting to see what happens when he buys UBA. A breakdown? A full dark side turn? Stella's got a big crisis of conscience in the works.

- I really enjoyed Alex this episode. She was purposeful in her maneuvering and using all her leverage (her charm, her folksiness, her business savvy, all of it) to the best effect. And I did actually feel some sexual tension between her and Marks, which I didn't get in their previous scene. I liked the parallel of him taking her for a ride and now her taking him for a ride (two actually, if you count the helicopter, though maybe that was his). The story potential of Alex being the one to "land" marks and save UBA is also strong.

- Meanwhile, Bradley... yawn. They want me to care so much about what exactly Bradley "owes" Cory for and I just don't. At least not yet. Just tell us and let it play out. Keeping us in suspense on something that already happened in the timeline of the show, and that multiple characters already know about, feels cheap.

- Chris, Jango, Mia... I mean this storyline about the treatment of people of color at UBA is not going to end well for them, right? No way it's some heartwarming resolution. I hope Chris still comes out on top somehow, I'm really rooting for her after last week's great episode. I like the scenes that contrasted Chris's approach with Janko's cynicism and Mia's resignation. It fun getting to see these characters spend more time together and I find it believable that they would be having these conversation in this way in this situation. Unlike a lot of storylines about diversity and racial prejudice, it actually feels organic and nuanced. Well done. More Janko though, this truly cannot be said enough.

- Ready for more Chip next episode though. I get why he wasn't featured in this one (no time, really), but I missed him. He offers more comic relief than most of the characters, though this episode was actually pretty funny even without him.

One of the worst things about this show is the unending opening credits and music. Yes, I know you can skip it, but it still plays the last 10-15 seconds. Horrible and tedious. I wonder who came up with it.

All of this. I loved this episode!

I can't stand Stella.

I'm enjoying the show, but it's so laughably unrealistic and frankly Jen Aniston and Reese are distracting in their roles. They are so famous at this point and such big celebs that I can't accept them in a role like this.

This show is loosely based on a book by an investigative journalist called Top of the Morning which I enjoyed - and it's about the Today Show. It's laughable to me that we are supposed to accept Alex Levy as this figure that American women are obsessed with. I love the Today Show, but I don't obsess over Savannah Guthrie. Jennifer Aniston - yes - I follow her, know what's she up to, am into her fitness and hair stuff. But not SG. It doesn't make sense that the most powerful woman on the network would be the host of a morning show who does a podcast. It's just so unrealistic I find it cringey.

And agree with a PP - Reese and her long hair would not be hosting the nightly news. Reese is not believable at this point as anything other than a famous actress. I felt the same way with her recent rom com with Ashton Kutcher - I don't believe her as a struggling single mom who can't find a date and is taking an accounting class LOL. She screams famous actress and business woman.

I think the Atlantic or Vanity Fair or someone had a headline recently, The Morning Show has a Star Problem and I agree.

That said, I’m still going to watch.

What was that scene?!? Alex and her constand, "Oh my GOD!! Oh my GOD!!!" I mean, I get that she was startled, but she so overacted in that scene. Bizarre. I like Jennifer Aniston, but get very tired of her constant verbal tics: sighing, mm-hmmming, addressing everyone as "honey" like she did in Friends, etc. It's beyond old.

You do realize what she says on screen is what is written and she has to say it?

No, I didn't realize that at all! OMG, thank you so much for enlightening me.

Point being if she just stood there saying OMG it would be boring. She had to act something out saying it so many times. I do agree, it was scripted too many times. But I think the last OMG was “OMG, I’m gonna have to clean (sterilize) that desk, maybe the whole apartment.”

It was in her house and they were co-workers. OMG, indeed!

Yes, very severe looking.

It's called aging, when you're skinny and don't do fillers and botox.

Her hair color was awful too. You can’t do all black like that. It looked like shoe polish. Even my husband commented on it (and he’s no metrosexual).

But I have loved her since her ER days. Her voice soothes me. She is so calm in contrast to Bradley and I loved her NYC home with the snow on the patio. I’ll move in.

Anonymous wrote:What episode is this scene you all are taking about with JA, Chip and her assistant?

In the last episode, when Alex asks Chip and her assistant to go to her home studio and retrieve her device for the hack, and then she comes home and finds them en flagrante. And then they tell her it's been going on for a while but they didn't know how to tell her.

I actually thought the scene was funny because its as very much about how Alex has Main Character Syndrome and once she's over her initial shock, she's like "let's all go out together to celebrate! this is so great! how can I be involved!" and there's some great subtle face acting from Duplass and the actress playing the assistant where Chip is almost ready to agree because he has a grossly codependent relationship with Alex, but the assistant is like "haha, no."

I love Mark Duplass in that role so that sells a lot of the show for me. He is so, so good at playing this guy who is likable and loyal but also entirely careerist with almost no actual morals. To me the show is very much about how these people can say all they want about "journalism" or even entertainment but at the end of the day, they are entirely in it for themselves and their own egos. It rings extremely true to me.

What happened to Chip’s fiancé?

It’s not directly addressed. But I think she left after he slipped out during JA’s Covid and pretended he had Covid to help JA get well and film from home
Remember she called during the time he was setting up the camera in JA apartment and he declined the call and cursed- he must have lied to the fiancé about where he was going or else just left.

Chip might actually be the most ruthlessly careerist person on the show, which is kind of funny because he has so little power -- he's entirely beholden to the whims of both on-air talent and the big egos in the c-suite. I find is character very amusing if not really at all likable.

The actor does a good job because I absolutely hate him. I want to punch him in the face and his stupid parka. He always has that sour resting b@tch face.

Omg! Yes! The worst. We both race to the remote to skip the stupid music and weird ball things.

I would totally lick up water from a table for $20k! I think Stella was more upset than the waitress. It was a pretty disturbing scene.

He and his real-life brother really do exude smug! I so enjoy the stuff they do, and I also have such a visceral hate reaction to them both.
