This is what too many people are failing to understand. Especially those who are currently at MV and can't believe anyone would flock there given the lower than 100% chance of DCI entry. Anything above 0 is still much better than what people have already in most of the city. |
Well, it’s better than 0% chance. And really no because we would still stay and consider private. We are fortunate to have options, and I’m sure there are other families like us. So DS can still keep in contact with his local friends, continue all sports, activities, and such. But we did not rank MV for middle, we ranked it for Spanish immersion and why we are taking the spot. If middle school is the primary reason you ranked MV and you don’t like the odds, then don’t take the spot. There are hundreds behind you who will. |

We attended the open house today. They had pictures out of the new school inside the buildings before the renovation. Some points:
1. Classrooms are huge, much bigger than P 2. PreK ground floor 3. K 1st floor 4. Admin 2nd floor 5. More smaller rooms for pull out instruction than P where there is not enough 6. 2 entrances in the morning - main doors and back 7. Small playground in the back is being torn up to be more eco-friendly (currently think she said was asphalt) and new play space to be put in. Also vegetable garden plans. Kids will go to TT for recess 8. Renovations currently - flooring replaced, some walls torn down, painting, shelving in classroom |
Thanks! this is great info, I wish they would open up the invite for the open houses to those of us on the wait list. I wonder if the classrooms will remain that big as they add grades each year. |
| Thanks PP for the info! Did anyone at the open house ask about the unionization effort? I’m curious how the administration would respond. |
It isn’t an effort. There IS now a union with 90+ teachers in it, that the Administration has chosen not to recognize voluntarily. The Administration and Board are delaying the inevitable, unless of course they can intimidate or terminate a few dozen of those teachers before an NLRB-mandated election is called. |
People at the open house were both principals (P & 8th ) and director of operations. Someone asked about the unionization effort, and they had no updates and said that they and the school are focused on meeting the needs of the students and providing the best education they can. |
I’m not sure but it’s a big building, and I suspect until they are able to purchase it (3 years is their tentative timeline), it will be and no major renovations done. |
There are 680 plus students total on the waitlist. It’s not feasible to invite both accepted students and waitlist students to the open house. |
They obviously have open houses all year for anyone and everyone, it wouldn’t be any different. |
It’s totally different. They might get inquiries here and there and it’s spread out for 11 months. You have 1 month here in April, and you want them to invite close to 1000 families to the 3 open houses they had - not gonna happen. 2 of the open houses was during school hours and already the groups had to be split up and strategized how best not to run into each other and disrupt the classroom. |
