The more we think about it the more excited and interested we are! I can’t wait to learn more.

Obviously it's better than a DCPS match, but still - now there's no guarantee for DCI.

Older parents are annoyed about the focus on expanding the elementary school as opposed to preparation for MS/HS. Not to mention the heavy lift it will take to expand DCI so that everybody can get in (because for the new school? you will have to lottery in - no guarantee for you.)

So yeah. That's why old-timers think the administration's energy was wasted on newbies.

Ok, glad to know I’m not the only one who is has some hesitation about accepting a seat. Excited but a lot of questions.

Also thanks to OP who posted about the email. Been so busy hadn’t even checked. Hopefully the follow up tours and play dates will answer some of my unknowns...

We matched and the more we talk with other educators and parents the more excited we get. We got the email and will go tho the play date next weekend. Mthe principal will be there and I’d like to ask her about how they plan to structure the day with walking to Turkey Thicket. All schools have growing pains but I am confident our child will be well taken care of and learn a lot. I think the incoming families will have a good “we’re all in this together” relationship with each other and school. DCI does plan to expand - a lot can happen by the time our preschooler gets to middle school!

Seriously, what evidence is there that DCI plans to expand? Parents say that all the time, but is there anything from the school that you can point to, at all?

NP. I don't know if DCI plans to expand. But I know that DCPS jettisoned Shaw Middle and it's an uphill fight for some reason. So there's a lot to think about.

You’re right. No hard evidence. It’s being quietly discussed behind the scenes and may be some time before anything is announced, if it is at all. For us it’s worth the gamble.

I’m wondering the same but not sure it is public. Maybe someone has some insight?

The MV admissions website was updated. Prek3 has 80 seats and prek4 has 96. Are the prek classes combined?

Were those seats offered in the initial lottery or will they be offered to those on the waitlist?

The MV website says updated 3/31. The lottery was on 3/29 so maybe they will go into the waitlist. I would contact admissions at MV for confirmation.

Is anyone concerned about the sheer size of these classes at mv 8th? It seems like they are basically tripling each class size from their current pk3 sizes at p street. Isn’t that like just creating 3 whole new schools the same size they are currently running? Any information on this and how they plan on maintaining quality with such a huge expansion?
