There are lengthy posts here about opposition to the new school. Many think Mundo is growing too soon.

Current MV parent - they still haven't proven their concept works. The administration is unresponsive and uncommunicative to parents, the test scores are subpar - in the most recent PARCC testing, my child admitteed they haven't been taught much of what they are testing for. The kids do not receive grades, just binders with confusing rubrics so you can't actually assess their performance level, and there are not enoug special ed teachers for those in need. Oh, and they haven't figured out the DCI feeder school dilema. Need I go on?

So you are taking your child out for 19-20?

Yes, so I’m assuming you are leaving? Almost 50% students at MV scored 4 on PARCC in both ELA and math. I wouldn’t call those scores subpar at all.

Sure. Can you help bump me up on a lottery or pay for private school?

So...unhappy at MV but not enough to go to your IB neighborhood school. Got it.

What are you smoking? I don’t have an IB neighborhood school. Not all of us do.

Troll

We are grown ups here. Let’s stop the name calling. I also don’t have an IB neighborhood school - assuming we are talking International Baccalaureate? That’s why we are trying for a charter so we have a chance to get into an IB middle school.

FYI, for those unfamiliar with International Baccalaureate, link below gives some general information. We also really like the IB curriculum which DCI has in middle and high school.

The curriculum encourages a lot of critical thinking. We also like the predominantly essay base exams which requires you to prove your answer in addition to developing good writing skills. You can’t guess the answer like multiple choice exams.

NP but I assume the PP was using IB to mean “In bound” not international baccalaureate.

Yes that’s obviously what they meant Someone misinterpreted it to mean international baccalaurate.

Has anyone heard anything about the waitlist update yet? I am finding it hard to believe that there is no movement at all at either location for multiple grades, when waitlists have moved 5-10 at the other charters.

I'm the PP surprised the waitlist hadn't moved more. I've now moved 2 spots (PK3 @ MV8). Still surprised it hasn't moved more!

Relatively speaking, MV doesn't take that many PK3 students, at least not compared to Pk4 and K. See their enrollment matrix for the 8th St campus.

I'm guessing a couple people have removed themselves from the waitlist. I'm in the 50's for pre-k 4 and have moved up 2 spots, but a friend who's in the single digits hasn't moved at all.

This isn't accurate. They dropped the 1st graders and added more PK seats. See their website for up to date numbers.

We declined a PK4 spot at MV8 before May 1, and our MSDC page finally updated with that information a few days ago. I called MSDC before the update to ask why we were still “match pending,” and was told that it’s on the school to alert MSDC when people decline spots. So my guess is MV has been slow at updating MSDC, and hence people are seeing no movement.

If it updated a few days ago, the PK4 waitlist hasn't moved to reflect it. I wonder if they are reducing the number of enrollments?

I'd bet it was delayed by the union drive.

Yes I would think the PK4 WL would have updated also. The whole lottery number and WL is a computer algorithm so should be pretty quick. It might be that a sibling (with higher number) was pulled in and why you saw no movement if that is the case.
