Mundo Verde 8th St

Isn’t that like just creating 3 whole new schools the same size they are currently running? Any information on this and how they plan on maintaining quality with such a huge expansion?

Absolutely concerned. Mundo 8th will be sheer chaos. Hopefully some questions will be answered at the play date this weekend.

Older parents are annoyed about the focus on expanding the elementary school as opposed to preparation for MS/HS. Not to mention the heavy lift it will take to expand DCI so that everybody can get in (because for the new school? you will have to lottery in - no guarantee for you.)

So yeah. That's why old-timers think the administration's energy was wasted on newbies.

This "old timer" is more concerned about the ability to serve the needs of the kids currently at P Street, which is not currently an oasis of learning.

This is not true. The PK classes at the Brookland campus will be the same size as at P St. -- combined PK3 and PK4, with approx. 25 kids total in each class.

What do you mean by "not currently an oasis of learning"?

Is there an agenda for the play date this weekend? We’re low on the waitlist and considering stopping by to see the new campus and hopefully hear the answers to some of these questions.

Why would you say it’s obvious better match than DCPS? Which DCPS are you referring to? You can’t be referring to alone DCPS? Not even all language DCPS. MV is def not better than Bancroft, Marie Reed, Powell, Oyster, Tyler, and some others. MV is a hot mess and most people that attend know it to be true. What measure are you using to say that? Waitlist length?

I think the playdate is at the P street location, not the new campus. Also, MV is doing tours on 4/5 and 4/18 (at the P street location), and I was under the impression that the playdate is more of a...playdate.

This person clearly fell for the hype. You should hear the way people in my neighborhood (Bloomingdale) talk about MV -- people who have never attended. its cultish and very inaccurate.

The playdate is at the P st. location. It wasn't super clear from the email.

Meanwhile, my friends at MV are counting down the days until they get to DCI and regretting turning down DCB when they had the chance 4-5 years ago.

We live in Bloomingdale (Ledroit actually) and have been at MV for four years now and I have to say that this year has been the best yet. It feels like the school has settled into a nice groove (at least in our grade). Is it perfect? No but as long as they keep getting good teachers (which we've had almost without exception) I'd recommend it to anyone. Do we worry about the new campus draining energy and attention from P Street? A little maybe but it hasn't been an issue this year.

What would you say are the drawbacks? Do you plan to attend DCI?

What time are the tours? I wasn't able to make it to any of the ones before the lottery.

Can anyone hazard a guess regarding how deep they might go on the waitlist? We have a low
double digit number...
