Hahha... who was #1 in favor of increasing the minimum wage to $15/hour. Elrich. If he really cared about people making a living wage instead of his union backers, he would have proposed to raise the Earned Income Tax Credit instead. |
| The Ticket supporters on this thread have actually convinced me to vote for Elrich. |
| "ticket" should be Ficker. Even autocorrect doesn't want me to vote for him. |
So what. You were going to vote for him anyway. Exactly no one here believes you were on the fence or open to considering anything but a status quo business as usual democrat candidate. You wouldn't vote for anything else even at gunpoint. |
Oh he’ll be different alright. But hey if you think the Trump experiment is going well, than by all means vote for the guy who is “different” just to stick it to the liberals. |
| If Ficker wins I'm literally going to start a riot that burns this county to the ground. |
See, thing is you won't even need to. This is what his supporters want. The "wrecking ball" approach. It's Trumpism. They are frustrated with how the county government has run things (and rightly so), and instead of the hard work and critical thinking it takes to get to the root of the problem, they'd rather let the whole county burn. I get that high property taxes are a major concern. So is the budget shortfall. IMO these problems are a result of too much developer influence in county government (when they don't pay impact taxes for infrastructure, you do, or it goes unfunded) and bad procurement policy. You'll want someone who has the knowledge and the creative thinking to approach both, so that a high quality of life will attract young, high-potential earning employees and bolster the local small and mid-size business economy. Robin Ficker is good at shouting and complaining, that's about it. I watched a live stream of the debate last week and these were his talking points, aside from claiming to throw skin-deep support behind initiatives that appear to be popular, even if they contradict each other: "Amazon is going to come here and solve all of our problems because Amazon is a Friend of Ficker." (No Amazon executive recognized Ficker's visit) "Vote for me because I'm not from Takoma Park" (and...?) "The ICC should be free" (how exactly would this alleviate taxes or traffic? sounds like it's a net negative for both) "The other two are term limited tax increase specialists" (so what is your alternative plan? ever consider the reason why?) "I represented African Americans as a defense attorney" (Great, I also have a black friend. Also, wasn't that your JOB?) "I am a friend of the environment" (Didn't you just propose widening i-270 and other more car-friendly objectives?) "Don't open a homeless shelter because homeless people should get jobs at Amazon" (???) "Our streets will be safer because if I'm Executive, we'll bring the FBI here! AND Amazon!" (???????) "I'm not a couch potato, look how out of shape Marc is! Every kid should run a mile! And spend more time in libraries" (each point accurate but completely irrelevant and who knows even what the question was) Robin Ficker is not a Larry Hogan Republican. I don't even think he's any consistent strain of Republican. He's just a moron. The people inclined to vote for him are the people who support Trump because they are pissed at everything. |
That’s already happening now. |
How so? |

Some might find this recap of the last debate helpful.

| Not me. I'll vote for Satan himself before I'd vote for a republican. |

Bethesda Magazine ran a post about a candidates forum hosted by Realtors and there’s this gem of a quote from Ficker -
At one point, Ficker asked the audience what “BFF” stood for. When the reply came back, “best friend forever,” Ficker corrected the respondents. “Bezos’ friendship with Ficker!,” He really does sound like he’s running for student council. What a buffoon. |
I get that a lot of people hate the council and its unnecessary tax increases, but this guy is just unqualified, plain and simple. Anyone who hears him speak can see he is mentally unstable. Anyone who thinks he's a useful 'hand grenade' = how is that working out for us in the white house? I'm probably voting for Elrich. He was most definitely NOT my first choice in the primary. I liked Frick, but eventually went with Krasnow because I could see he had no chance. Blair was great and I realize I should have voted for him but Rose had the experience, and we need more women, period. I considered Floreen, honestly, but her campaign ad was so awful and her debate responses and behavior have been so awful I've been swayed. We've got a pretty moderate and more YIMBY-leaning Council coming in - I really like Evan Glass, especially. Nancy Floreen though has completely lost my respect with all her personal attacks. There are a lot of things I disagree with Elrich on, believe me, but he has taken the high road. As I think the Council will temper any leftover latent leftist tendencies of his, whatever they may be, the Executive role does indeed have a figurehead component to it, which begs a certain decorum that Ike Leggett exemplifies. Neither Ficker nor Floreen have the temperament. |
When has this Council ever shown they can control either raising taxes or not increasing spending? There isn't a program they have cut, a fee that hasn't been added. Nothing is being done to really make MoCo a good place to do business. Elrich's cczy relationship with the Unions does not bode well for the voter's pocketbooks. |
I posted earlier in the thread about voting for Ficker as a hand grenade, but after watching the Kavanaugh hearings -- I don't think I can bring myself to vote for a Republican at any level of government. |
