Montgomery County, please give Elrich a chance. Don't let Floreen fool you.

I was actually contemplating voting for Ficker until Floreen was for-sure in.

And although I'm really not enthusiastic about people who switch affiliations in order to run in a general election, well, I can overlook that this time.

But there is no way on earth I'm voting for Elrich. He makes Ben Jelous look like Rush Limbaugh. I'm not sure I can even vote for Jelous, either, for that matter.

Maybe I'm becoming a DINO.

Ugh...really. Ficker. Seriously?? He has been disbarred like what 4-5 times now? He will be as incompetent in this position as he is as an attorney.

This.

To Hell with both of them. At least with Ficker, I KNOW my taxes aren't going up as much, and we won't be paying for lawyers for people here illegally to fight their deportation for being here illegally.

Ficker it is.

Y'all can't possibly be serious.

NP here and I'm voting Ficker too. Elrich and Floreen have both spent 10+ years on the county council. Time for a real change.

Real change, from a guy who has run for office unsuccessfully for 40 years? I urge you to just google the guy. Unless you are a completely far-gone Trump voter, you cannot possibly be ignorant enough to vote for this embarrassment.

It’s just reflective of the fact many voters pay very little attention to their government until it’s an election year. And then it’s too late.

Ficker has only run "unsuccessfully" for so long because MoCo has so many ignorant liberals.

In America, Ficker would be a Governor or Senator by now.

I'm a Democrat but I think I'll do the same as a protest vote

I am still waiting for a statement from someone about an actual Elrich policy that he has stated he intends to implement as County Executive that they find problematic and the reasons why it is problematic, and what Nancy Floreen or Robin Ficker offer as an alternative.

And no, "Marc Elrich is an anti-business Communist" or "We just need someone not from the Council" does not a substantial argument make.

Ficker is a nut job. Not even in an alternative universe would he get elected to anything as important as County Executive.
In 1996, Ficker was acquitted of destruction of property in a 1995 traffic incident and saw battery charges dropped by the State's Attorney after a jury deadlocked 10-2 in favor of acquittal. Ficker had been convicted in a non-jury District Court trial but appealed for a Circuit Court jury trial.[53][54] In the traffic incident the driver of the car Ficker hit reported that he struck her in the face, breaking her glasses.[55]

Main article: 2015 Washington, D.C., mass killing
When ex-convict Daron Dylon Wint was arrested and charged in the deaths of three family members and their housekeeper, in which a ten-year-old child was tortured in order to extract money from the child's father, Ficker said Wint didn't seem violent when he defended him in earlier cases. "My impression of him — I remember him rather well — is that he wouldn't hurt a fly. He's a very nice person", Ficker said.[56]

Ficker characterized Wint as "kind and gentle", and added that authorities have arrested "the wrong guy" in the murder case, claiming, "They've made a big mistake here."[57]

Let's start with Elrich's flawed thinking that economic development is not a zero sum game. This lead to his infamous comments about creating jobs in Frederick as a solution for people working in MoCo or other jurisdictions, and living in Frederick due to housing costs. This was a foolish comment to make as it implies that he wants less people living and working in the County and going to other areas. If a company decides to set up shop in Frederick, that means that they chosen to bypass MoCo, and leads to an overall economic loss for MoCo, since you will have people living and working in Frederick. Moreover, the reality is that in the DC region, economic activity IS a zero sum game. The is evidenced by employers moving ship from MoCo to NoVA and the sheer volume of new jobs that exist in NoVA. Even DC has experience a higher number of job growth as employers are willing to pay a premium to have a DC address.

We can't rest on our laurels and think that people or employers will come to our county simply because it's Montgomery County. Other jurisdictions have surpassed us in quality of life, and all of those jurisdictions are welcoming to new jobs and residents. Just look at the development that is occurring in Fairfax and Arlington vs MoCo. In order to maintain our current level of services and remain competitive with other counties, we need to embrace economic growth, which includes new development.

I actually dislike Floreen and loathe Ficker. However, neither of them have ever promotion the idea of job creation or development in other counties as Elrich has done. I could go on, but that is a huge reason why I'll never vote for Elrich.

Really? He’s the best candidate? We had Connie Morelia, a Republican, in the House of Representatives for 19 excellent years.
Robin Ficker is not a good candidate in any way. Why isn’t there a decent repub candidate??

The only thing created in MoCo is housing. Nonstop high rise developments going in in Bethesda without infrastructure to support the new residents. No new roads, no new schools, no community center or ball fields . This short sighted county council just sees dollar signs in these new residents but it’s not sustainable because of a lack of quality of life. Enrich was and is of that council . No thanks!

He’s indicated a willingness to work together with Council to budget and make policy. If he can really create a collaborative effort, I think things will run very smoothly.

We will see how political he is, I guess. I don’t know that aspect of him. I won’t forgive Ike for giving County employees a 14% raise over two years during his re-election campaign when we were barely out of a recession. We are still digging out of structural service cuts that impact residents. Marc better not repeat that kind of stuff. We are likely to have at least a little recession during his term.

The council is a horrible corrupt mess - we don’t need someone ‘ of the cou cil’ . We needed someone fresh. We are so stupid in this county.

Bill Frick ran and won something like 2% of the vote.

Elrich probably paid Frick to run just to take votes from Blair.

So, I voted Blair in the primary because I agree with you that new blood would be a good thing - HOWEVER - I intend to vote for Elrich in the general. Yes, he was of the council that was responsible for uncontrolled development without infrastructure - HE WAS THE LONE DISSENTING VOTE on these very Council decisions! There's a reason why he was never elected Council president, because he didn't jive well with the others who were for this kind of irresponsible development.
I am also encouraged to hear what he has said about Amazon in agreeing to keep Ike's proposal plus viewing it as a mutually beneficial thing in which revenue could help pay for infrastructure. This is the kind of thinking I like to hear.

Blair only endorsed Elrich because he wants to be team player. His policies would have been completely different than what we will see with Elrich. Our county is so stupid to get the opportunity to have new blood that we desperately need (in Blair but honestly Frick would have been great), and instead vote for a socialist who has done a terrible job.
