Bethesda Magazine ran a post about a candidates forum hosted by Realtors and there’s this gem of a quote from Ficker - At one point, Ficker asked the audience what “BFF” stood for. When the reply came back, “best friend forever,” Ficker corrected the respondents. “Bezos’ friendship with Ficker!,” He really does sound like he’s running for student council. What a buffoon.
I get that a lot of people hate the council and its unnecessary tax increases, but this guy is just unqualified, plain and simple. Anyone who hears him speak can see he is mentally unstable. Anyone who thinks he's a useful 'hand grenade' = how is that working out for us in the white house? I'm probably voting for Elrich. He was most definitely NOT my first choice in the primary. I liked Frick, but eventually went with Krasnow because I could see he had no chance. Blair was great and I realize I should have voted for him but Rose had the experience, and we need more women, period. I considered Floreen, honestly, but her campaign ad was so awful and her debate responses and behavior have been so awful I've been swayed. We've got a pretty moderate and more YIMBY-leaning Council coming in - I really like Evan Glass, especially. Nancy Floreen though has completely lost my respect with all her personal attacks. There are a lot of things I disagree with Elrich on, believe me, but he has taken the high road. As I think the Council will temper any leftover latent leftist tendencies of his, whatever they may be, the Executive role does indeed have a figurehead component to it, which begs a certain decorum that Ike Leggett exemplifies. Neither Ficker nor Floreen have the temperament.
When has this Council ever shown they can control either raising taxes or not increasing spending? There isn't a program they have cut, a fee that hasn't been added. Nothing is being done to really make MoCo a good place to do business. Elrich's cczy relationship with the Unions does not bode well for the voter's pocketbooks.
