Montgomery County, please give Elrich a chance. Don't let Floreen fool you.

He’s indicated a willingness to work together with Council to budget and make policy. If he can really create a collaborative effort, I think things will run very smoothly.

We will see how political he is, I guess. I don’t know that aspect of him. I won’t forgive Ike for giving County employees a 14% raise over two years during his re-election campaign when we were barely out of a recession. We are still digging out of structural service cuts that impact residents. Marc better not repeat that kind of stuff. We are likely to have at least a little recession during his term.

The council is a horrible corrupt mess - we don’t need someone ‘ of the cou cil’ . We needed someone fresh. We are so stupid in this county.

You have four new council members. That’s “fresh.” It remains to be seen if the newbies can govern.

Bill Frick ran and won something like 2% of the vote.

I was actually contemplating voting for Ficker until Floreen was for-sure in.

And although I'm really not enthusiastic about people who switch affiliations in order to run in a general election, well, I can overlook that this time.

But there is no way on earth I'm voting for Elrich. He makes Ben Jelous look like Rush Limbaugh. I'm not sure I can even vote for Jelous, either, for that matter.

Maybe I'm becoming a DINO.

Yeah, the argument that he is not as bad as you think is almost as compelling as the argument made in other threads that 'he won't actually be able to accomplish what he wants so you have no real need to fear him.'

There is plenty of room between being a DINO and not supporting Elrich/Jealous. We just happen to have two very far left nominees at the same time. When we get back to simply left, and not hard left, I will have no trouble coming back to the party. (Or if there were only crazy R options I would hold my nose for the D, but here there are other reasonable options.)

+1 to both of these points. Also, the notion that the progressive left will be shut out is pretty silly. The left is well-tended in MoCo.

OP, you keep complaining about "unethical" behavior without having a firm grasp of the proper definition of that term.

No. If you ran in the primaries, you can't run again in the general by switching parties or becoming an independent.

Marc Elrich has the endorsement of the most respected elected Democrats, in this crucial election season. Jamie Raskin, Ben Cardin, Chris Van Hollen, Kathleen Matthews, plus primary opponents including most notably David Blair have endorsed him. The only people endorsing Nancy Floreen are sky-is-falling McCarthyists and developers whining that they won't get the green light from Elrich to pave over literally everything.

Nancy is not an INDEPENDENT. She is squarely the affiliation of D for Developers. Exactly what has she done to EVER indicate that she cares about ordinary working people. Even if you don't like Elrich and think you have a valid reason, Nancy has done nothing but be a spoiler and egotistical opportunist to earn your vote. She should drop out, go away, and stay away.

I like Robin Ficker----I'm over both Elrich and Floreen.

This doesn't sound like NIMBYism - it sounds like he wants a place for people of diverse income ranges to live

You are not going to make it easier for diverse income ranges to live in MoCo by fighting development. The only way to make it easier to live in a place, is to make it easier to build housing. Holding back supply will tighten the market for new multifamily housing - that does not only raise prices/rents on new housing - it means the people who would have lived in that new housing will compete for slightly older housing - and so on down.

Is there any impact fee proposed when a large new house replaces a small older house? Even though the former almost certainly means more school children, and likely puts more burden on schools then a new 1 BR condo does?

And the way to deal with traffic and congestion is not limiting development, but providing more transportation alternatives, especially transit. Transit is easier to justify with greater density, and its easier to walk to with more walkable development replacing old shopping centers and parking lots.

This.

To Hell with both of them. At least with Ficker, I KNOW my taxes aren't going up as much, and we won't be paying for lawyers for people here illegally to fight their deportation for being here illegally.

Ficker it is.

Elrich spent all his money on the primary and has none left. Flooreen knew her plan all this time and will win.

If the candidate had to write a letter to amazon saying he is business friendly he knows the perception is a lot worse than he thought and he can't recover.

And you're ok with that? This is dirty politics. She didn't earn anyone's vote. It's all obviously the developers' desperate last-ditch move.

The notion that Elrich is incorrigibly business hostile is completely unfounded. Those who say otherwise have yet to provide any substantial evidence, especially evidence that distinguishes him from Floreen. I honestly don't understand why anyone on here is so hell-bent on voting for her unless you personally own a real estate company and want to make a higher profit.

If she can't earn anyone's vote, she won't win. She now has the opportunity to try to do that. What she is doing is perfectly legal. Given the that Elrich won about 30% of the primary voters, won by 77 votes, in an election that only registered Ds could vote in, I have no problem with the electorate as a whole being given another choice - which they are free to take or reject.

NP here and I'm voting Ficker too. Elrich and Floreen have both spent 10+ years on the county council. Time for a real change.

Real change, from a guy who has run for office unsuccessfully for 40 years? I urge you to just google the guy. Unless you are a completely far-gone Trump voter, you cannot possibly be ignorant enough to vote for this embarrassment.
