Montgomery County, please give Elrich a chance. Don't let Floreen fool you.

You should go see the facilities they have upcounty. You’ll really be pissed then.

I drive my kids to those facilities all the time for classes and they are stunningly beautiful.

It’s absurd to assume that everyone in Bethesda is paying their high real estate taxes and that everyone belongs to a country club but I’m sure that that’s what is assumed. A country club costs 120k to join and I don’t have any neighbors who belong near as I know. It’s a solidly middle class area, most people in most parts of Bethesda are not at all rich.

So - Elrich wants to make sure that adequate public facilities and infrastructure is added before huge new dense developments are built and Floreen and the rest of the council all voted no? How could anyone vote for Nancy Floreen or any of the other development bought politicians? And the Washington Post is now owned by a man who is similarly buying up everything to enrich himself only so now I understand their endorsement of Floreen.

Don’t be dumb with your tax dollars and communities - vote Elrich.

That's quite a stretch to say Bezos/Amazon are controlling the editorial board at the Post. And if they were, wouldn't they focus on bigger issues than a lowly county executive race? Is that you, Elrich?

So let’s think about this for a second. Imagine a forest with no humans. You have 100 families that want to move there and build a town. Once this town is built, schools and facilities will need to be built to support the new population. In what world do you build up infrastructure before people arrive. This “logic” that you prebuild sounds good until you actually use your brain and think about it. It’s nothing more than typical NIMBY behavior to keep new residents out of the area.

Not that poster, but why did they endorse Blair twice? It's very odd to ever do more than one endorsement, especially in a primary....

Florence is a dead ringer for The Grinch. As I have recently heard teachers, fire fighters , police officers and all county workers complain that she has ‘stolen wage increases from them’ I wonder if life is imitating art here?

Keep it classy Elrich. Nothing like taking pot shots at someone based on her appearance.

And "stealing wage increases" is ridiculous because the increases here are guaranteed. And Floreen will at most nominally hold the line on public sector salaries; she's hardly a grinch on that front.

No, it’s not, but nice try. Wanting decent infrastructure with development is perfectly reasonable and it’s also something that we have PAID FOR with our tax dollars - so where did they go exactly?? Hmmm. Into the political cesspool somewhere.

And people in this areaxwant more affordable housing units do you can just stfu because you are ignorant.

Where Elrich & Floreen stand on beltway expansion - a summary from a Bethesda neighborhood that borders the beltway & a Silver Spring one too:
Dear neighbors--

I've gotten a few requests for this; see below. There is a connection between the lead story about and new warnings about climate change and the highway widening issue.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/energy-environment/2018/10/08/world-has-only-years-get-climate-change-under-control-un-scientists-say/?utm_term=.9f9f6ab80aa5
Here is relevant information on tomorrow night's Action Committee for Transit meeting:
October 9 (7:30 pm) - Organizing against highway widening when the earth is warming
Speaker: Pete Altman, dontwiden270.org
Change of location: Old B&O Railroad Station, 8100 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring

Frederick County's legislative delegation will play an important role over the next four years. Let me know if you are interested in knocking on doors in Frederick County next weekend in support of two candidates opposed to the widening: Ron Young (incumbent), former Frederick mayor, has long focused on downtown revitalization and sees MARC service as a big part of that. Ken Kerr came to MTOC's Trains Not Tolls meeting and has come out against any widening of I-270.[MTOC = Maryland Transit Opportunities Coalition https://www.transitformaryland.org/ ]

Governor: The widenings are a signature project of Gov. Hogan. Ben Jealous is opposed, and (as noted in a previous e-mail) attended the Sept 30 transportation rally. The rally was "to promote affordable, sensible transportation options in place of Gov. Hogan's plan for Lexus Lanes on I-495/I-270."

County Executive: Democrat Marc Elrich www.marcelrich.orgis opposed and also attended that rally. Republican Robin Ficker is in favor. https://www.robindeliversforyou.com/transportation
Nancy Floreen, who lost the D primary but is running as an independent, appears to strongly support the widenings. She called the governor's widening plan "terrific" in testimony at a November 2, 2017, meeting. “If we’re going to think big, I urge that we should think as creatively and as differently as we can for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” From a Sept. 21, 2017, Bethesda Magazine article: “I am thrilled to death,” she said in a phone interview. “I really believe this is the way the region needs to go, and my hat is off to the governor for getting this going.” Noting that both of those quotes are from 2017, a quick Google search for more recent information found only this neutral comment from her as well as information on how to submit comments:

http://nancyfloreen.blogspot.com/2018/07/i-495-and-i-270-managed-lanes-study.html

Last night I attended the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Workshop for the I-495 and I-270 Managed Lanes Study. MDOT provided an update on the study status and proposed schedule. We received an overview of the study's Purpose and Need and the range of alternatives under consideration. We also participated in small working groups with MDOT technical staff so residents could provide comments and ask questions.

Your voice counts and MDOT wants your feedback. If you couldn't attend one of the workshops you can still provide your comments. You can visit the program website to participate in a virtual workshop or, here's a list of other ways to stay informed:

• Contact the study team via email at

• Call the study team toll free at 833-858-5960

• Sign up for email notifications on the
website at www.495-270-p3.com

• Read the Study Newsletter

• Submit a comment by mail to:

State Highway Administration
I-495 & I-270 P3 Office

Attorney General: Don't think candidates have taken a position on this. Brian Frosh as a state senator opposed the Beltway widening when it was last proposed.

Beltway Expansion Surveyors Reported at Sligo Creek Golf Course
We’re passing along two reports Ms.Howland sent over the past 24 hours about surveyors identifyinghemselves as part of the I-495/I-270 expansion project. We urge neighbors near the Beltway to follow Ms. Howland’s advice to keep an eye out for survey crews. When you see them, engage with them (politely), ask questions, take pictures, and share with your elected officials and local civic groups.
Sligo Creek: “I confirmed with the manager of Sligo Creek Golf Course that an MDOT crew spent half a day out on the course last week surveying. He stayed with them during parts of the process and watched on their field computers the line of demarcation. In the curve of the Beltway between Sligo Creek Parkway and Dallas Avenue, the expansion line cuts Hole #3 in half and eliminates Hole #4. Their lasers continued through the fence and took out the first 5-6 houses on Dallas Avenue adjacent to the noise wall. This is absolutely NOT staying within the current right of way….I am going to call it = Hogan is a LIAR!"
Colesville Road: Ms. Howland’s husband encountered MDOT workers between Colesville Rd. and Dennis Avenue preparing to do an archaeological site survey for 495 and 270. When her husband said "but this hasn't been approved yet", they just shrugged and said this was what they were working on, and had been working. (Their business card included a link to the P3 Program website at 495-270-P3.com 495-270-P3@...)

Posted on mymcmedia Facebook page on a Nancy Floreen article. Can someone explain?

Maybe she should pay the county employees what they are owed? After all she is one of the main reasons why our police officers, fire fighters, bus drivers, teachers, and every single other county employee are owed promised step increases costing them and their families thousands of dollars every year

I just came from the candidates’ forum in Bethesda. I was most impressed with Floreen, I was more impressed than I thought I would be by Elrich, and I am scared to death of Ficker. So I still don’t know how I’m going to vote.

Floreen is awful. She's been a fixture on the county council for years and is one of the people I'd hold responsible for many of the bad choices. She's also totally in bed with developers and their sweetheart deals which result in school overcrowding and budget shortfalls. Elrich may not be perfect, but he seems preferable.
