You sound like the other poster, and the other poster, and other poster, and other poster, who all post the same exact thing, or variation of it : "I was thinking about voting for _______, but after ____________, there's no way I could ever vote for a Republican now." Pro-tip for all "five" of you: 1) get a new script, because this one is as worn out as Chuck Schumer's hernia truss. 2) exactly no one believes you would ever consider voting for any Republican, ever. If you did, you'd probably melt like a witch splashed with a bucket of water.

No, you didn't. Because *I* called him the hand grenade, and you're not ME. But you ARE a liar! |
| The Washington Post endorsed Floreen today. |
|
I've lived in several states and would have been considered a deep blue liberal hippy democrat in many (red states) I lived in. Meanwhile in MoCo apparently I'm a centrist (or possibly slightly right?!). That just shows how far MoCo is to the left.
In most of the country, "developers" aren't really a political issue because people WANT development. They want housing and businesses. Only in MoCo do people want fewer homes for others to live in and businesses for them to work at or shops to buy things. You don't "tax a developer" $20,000 for a new house, that developer doesn't pay the tax they simply charges $20,000 more for the home. It an additional tax on home ownership. NIMBYism is the reason San Francisco is such a mess right now. They won't let people build new housing so prices have skyrocketed. I was reading Floreen's site and she's for expanding I-270 to the North. That makes a lot of sense to me. One of the big problems with 270 is that it quickly drops the number of lanes. Expanding the lanes where it's already widest isn't going to do much if you don't expand where it's narrowest. State liquor stores - dumb. 'nuff said. I'm probably going to vote for Floreen. For governor, I just can't see myself voting for Hogan (or any Republican) but Ben Jealous wants a $15 minimum wage state-wide. I can understand the argument for a $15 minimum wage in Montgomery County and even agree it's probably necessary. This is the most expensive part of the state and housing here is very expensive. A place like Hagerstown for example isn't as expensive as Bethesda and it's close enough to other states that businesses will pack up and move a few miles away to get a lower minimum wage. If they wanted to adjust minimum wage on a county-by-county basis and use that each county's cost of living to adjust the minimum wage then count me in but to say $15 for every county is just stupid. I'll vote for Jealous anyway since I don't want to vote Republican but I doubt he's going to win. I think Hogan will be reelected. |
|
If you can't even bring yourself to vote for Hogan, then you really need to stop thinking of yourself as "middle of the road", because you aren't. You're on the left shoulder, way over near the grass.
So just own it. Admit who you are. Be honest with yourself about it. |
Well in that case, how much further are people to the left of "on the shoulder" if they want state-wide $15 minimum wage? I never said I wasn't a liberal. In fact, I said I was a far left deep blue liberal in many of the Republican states I used to live in. It's just here in Maryland somehow I'm not as liberal as other people. |
No, most people in Maryland would think you are a reasonable liberal. In Takoma Park is where you would be considered a far-right conservative corporatist enemy of the people. |
(PP) And I'll add that I think Takoma Park, parts of Silver Spring - basically anywhere that voted over 50% for Elrich - should secede and form their own collectivist commune, and keep Marc Elrich with them as their Dear Leader, Lord Emperor, Revolutionary Comandante and let the rest of the county get back to BUSINESS. We would be so much better off if that far left corner didn't vote as a bloc en masse to skew all of our elections. |
San Francisco's a mess because at least partially because it's a peninsula in an earthquake zone. There are practical considerations at play. |

Instead of forming a pro-growth coalition with business and labor, most of the San Francisco Left made an enduring alliance with home-owning NIMBYs. It became one of the peculiar features of San Francisco that exclusionary housing politics got labeled “progressive.” (Organized labor remained a major political force throughout this time period, and has allied with both pro-growth and anti-growth forces, depending on the issue.) Over the years, these anti-development sentiments were translated into restrictive zoning, the most cumbersome planning and building approval process in the country, and all kinds of laws and rules that make it uniquely difficult, time-consuming, and expensive to add housing in San Francisco." https://www.silverdoctors.com/headlines/world-news/san-francisco-is-becoming-such-a-filthy-dump-the-tourism-industry-is-begging-the-city-to-do-something/ San Francisco is a mess because of crazy laws run amok. |
I know -
|
Takoma Park will never secede - how else would they be able to get all of our tax money to build Rec centers and libraries every few miles there? What about Saturday and summer schools only for their children? They have to reap the benefits of our high property taxes and the endless building sprees? There’s still a few areas in Bethesda where you can see some grass and parts of the sky after all! |
Is this stuff true or is it hyperbole? Using county taxes to pay for serves exclusively to one small area is wrong. |
This is...inaccurate, to say the least. I live in Takoma Park and there is no way I’d vote for Erlich, BTW. |
| The OP makes me much less likely to vote for Erlich. Wonder if I’m the only one. |
