Should Asians boycott some elite universities that practice holistic admissions?

Oh I did not post for you, I posted for people who want REAL, CURRENT facts , not facts from a year and a half ago and carryover from Obama.

why? You have zero advantage when it comes to college admissions.

Stupid question but what happens if the student lies and applies as a minority that they think will get them an advantage? I read in the NYT that Asian parents were giving their children less typically Asian names, but what happens to a kid that blatantly lies on race? It’s not like the school can try to prove the kid is a liar, or is there a recourse?

Just curious what type of consequences there are and how schools would attempt to investigate and prove the kid lies. (Note, I’m not advocating anyone do this, honestly just curious)

If there is no consequence and schools can’t do anything to “prove” a student is or isn’t a minority, I wonder why there isn’t a ton of fraud on applications.

You people need to get over this crazy obsession with Ivys. As soon as things change in the admission process, you will find something or some other group to be obsessed with. Guaranteed.

Asians by nature move in packs then complain they all can't fit through the door

I think this was discussed before, and someone stated that if you have a white sounding name, and don't pick a race, they will automatically assume white. Your last name gives you away. There are a few Asian names that can cross over like Park and Lee. I think in such a case, if you didn't select a race, they will assume Asian.

Because let's face it.. most people know that if you choose URM race, you have a better chance of getting in, so why wouldn't a person select a URM check box. I would, and I'm Asian American.

My kids are biracial with a white name. I will tell them to choose white, not Asian.

Or at least boycott schools that don't release race specific admission data on # of applications, # of admits, mean scores of applicants, mean score of admitted etc.

Unless there is a movement, nothing will change. Look at the gay rights movement

Game theory. Even if 100% Asians agreed to a boycott, 99.9% of them would then secretly apply. If rejected, they can claim they adhered to the boycott. If accepted, they'd say oh well, my kid's going to HYPS!

A classic collective action problem.

I'm glad OP made the distinction of "Asian Americans" as opposed to foreign students from Asia. In recent years there have been reports of cheating on a massive scale on college placement tests in Asia. I've also heard anecdotal reports of systematic cheating by foreign students once on campus.

Top schools are understandably wary of students applying from countries where such problems seem widespread. However, foreign students are important revenue sources - sometimes paying a premium tuition.

We had a white girl in my D's HS who claimed she's American Indian. She got into approximately 5 Ivys. Not sure how many Ivys she applied to. Second hand info.

Senator Warren allegedly claimed the same thing. Not sure if colleges even bother verifying info. They are using it for stats purpose, not as a test of applicants character.
