This is correct. Let the game play out. Pretty soon those schools will not be associated as having a student population of superior intellectual capacity but with students from wealthy, elite “pay to play” type families sprinkled with the ‘right kind’ of minority to appear as though they value everyone. |
Do we apply this logic to other races and demographics too, or is it just the Asians that need to get over it? To those crossing at the border: when will you move on and live your life! Get over the immigration thing why don’t you! There is just so many the US can handle. You have some. You can’t have them all. The US is not the only game in town. There are other countries in this game too. Gay people: when will you move on and live your life! Get over the bakery owners, why don’t you! There are just so many cakes they can make. No bakery is the only bakery in town. There are others you can go to. |
| We'll certainly see what happens, that's for sure. Life is interesting that way. |
| Black people: if Starbucks doesn’t want you in their coffee shop, move on. Get over it. |
| Asians should boycott all colleges and live a normal life, deprogram and explore their true selves. |
Not OP, but that happens to be the percent enrolled at Harvard the last two years. |
| Asian kids should boycott school and rise up against Tiger Moms who hijack their childhoods and force them into studying 7 days a week until the can't think an original thought and no clue what their own dreams are. |
| Yes, but what’s the rationale for treating it as the dividing line between acceptable and unacceptable admissions practices? |
The Supreme Court just rules on the cakes. You can't force a bakery to make you a cake...and you can't get into Harvard without a personality. |

Students should take a common sense approach in creating approximately 10 common app. colleges to apply. If Harvard doesn't have a history of welcoming Asian students, it makes more sense to replace it with schools that do.
That said, I am inclined to believe there are great many SLACs that have relatively low Asian acceptances - less to do with discrimination - more to do with the fact that Asians are enamored of Harvard and Ivy League. These are the schools that Asians should be focused if they want to increase their chances at top schools. These schools are just as good, if not better, than Harvard and other Ivy League schools. |
What if the schools want some kids who know where commas go? The tests don't really evaluate that these days. What do colleges do about important areas of academic knowledge not in the tests? |
In what universe is 22% of enrollees "not welcoming?" |
Consider 22 percent Asian is about triple their percent of population. The real issue is harvard discriminates against non-Asians |

My kid has friends with Asian moms who try to be Tiger moms but mostly burn out and go with the flow. The moms are very worried about discrimination, but, so far, the kids have done fine and ended up at the desired test schools. Maybe the reality is that a lot of schools that try to discriminate are lazy, too, and end up going with the flow and opening up to great kids who happen to have Asian surnames. |
