Can I identify as Asian
why? You have zero advantage when it comes to college admissions.
Stupid question but what happens if the student lies and applies as a minority that they think will get them an advantage? I read in the NYT that Asian parents were giving their children less typically Asian names, but what happens to a kid that blatantly lies on race? It’s not like the school can try to prove the kid is a liar, or is there a recourse? Just curious what type of consequences there are and how schools would attempt to investigate and prove the kid lies. (Note, I’m not advocating anyone do this, honestly just curious)
I think this was discussed before, and someone stated that if you have a white sounding name, and don't pick a race, they will automatically assume white. Your last name gives you away. There are a few Asian names that can cross over like Park and Lee. I think in such a case, if you didn't select a race, they will assume Asian. Because let's face it.. most people know that if you choose URM race, you have a better chance of getting in, so why wouldn't a person select a URM check box. I would, and I'm Asian American. My kids are biracial with a white name. I will tell them to choose white, not Asian.
