Sherri Papini: Does anyone think it's a hoax?

I think they needed the money because she doesn't work and stays home all day putting on make-up while the kids are @ daycare.

What?! The iPhone tracking device is a simple app.

If this is a true story then I don't think the husband is thinking about how much money he can make off of it. He is probably in total shock yet very thankful and a complete mess!

Too soon to tell.

Right? I've found that when people want to blame the victim, it usually is because they have an intense and natural desire to justify why it couldn't happen to them.

But it could. It could happen to any of us.

It is interesting that the authorities have not told us brand said or looks like. However did you see the interview with her husband on Yahoo? At one point he slipped and said the word MILF. And then he kind of quickly started talking about something else like it was a slip up. It was really quick, but I wonder if that's what was branded on her, the acronym MILF.

There have been cases of hoax branding.

This either a hoax, or related to the marijuana industry (which is big and wild up in that part of CA).

A woman back in 2008 claimed an Obama supporter carved B into her face but she did it in the mirror and it came out backwards. Point is, she could have done it.

Yep. Branding doesn't convince me. Crazy people do crazy things, including to themselves.

Sounds like they are leaning toward believing her.

They discussed a description of the two women she described (though they apparently kept half of their faces covered in her presence.

I don't know what to think about this story.

Stuff like this happens in Mexico often enough to be a thing. Women get abducted and then used in sex trafficking. They are beaten and raped to break them and make them compliant to forced prostitution.

If she had been raped, if this had happened in Mexico, if this was done by men, I would find the story less weird. There are no reports of rape, though, and it happened in California. It's odd.

Yeah, this is what I thought of, too. Also, how effing stupid can you be with that backwards 'B'? Holy crap.

This whole kidnapping makes absolutely no sense! Her phone carefully placed, screen side up to easily be found, no vehicles, or Sherri herself found on surveillance, her hair was long according to one passerby, and now Keith claims it is shaved. The branding, that he was not supposed to disclose, but did anyway. If you want justice, or revenge, you do not compromise an investigation! You cooperate fully so justice can be served. If people are talking about a hoax, who cares? Image is the last thing he should be worried about, but it is his first priority. She was returned on Thanksgiving, which is what the Grandparents told the children. They had told them Mommy will be home for Thanksgiving, and she was! Living in a town such as Redding that is very judgmental, I would want to cover my butt too if I took off, had all this media attention and donations, then wanted to return to society. As a very vain female, I would hurt my looks too so I would be believable. This case cost lots of money, and lots of people donated. If this is a hoax as I suspect, they all need to be prosecuted. I believe Keith should be for obstructing justice as he did by giving away those details. He knew better, but wanted everyone to know just how victimized Sherri had been. This reeks of a scam. Women don't usually kidnap. They got nothing out of this! Nothing! I will be watching Keith tonight as he does further damage on 20/20. I personally believe he's doing all this blabbing on purpose so the police will have to close out the case. People who want justice do not do this!

Evidence is pointing to Mexican Drug Cartel Sex Traffickers.

I believe it. I've never once doubted her story.

Experts think it was a kidnap for purpose of sex trafficking. Women who were involved in the abduction were probably slaves too and carrying out orders of the traffickers. Branding the women is a trademark of traffickers. When they saw her face plastered all over the news and realized she was older than they thought she was (married with children), they needed to get rid of her and dumped her on the roadside.

What evidence would that be, exactly?

This is exactly what I believe as well. She looks so much younger than she is, they may have thought she was a teenager at first glance.

This story is so awful it would be nice to believe it's a hoax, but I don't think it is. She was taken, beaten, burned, and dumped.

I believe your question was just answered.

NP. I agree with you. And I'm not into some of the wild speculation posted here. But, I do understand in this instance why people are confused or wondering about the veracity of this story. It's bizarre. It may be entirely true, but it's very weird.
