The American Psychiatric Association (aka the association of people who are actually medically qualified to define and diagnose mental disorders) disagrees with you: A psychological state is considered a mental disorder only if it causes significant distress or disability. Many transgender people do not experience their gender as distressing or disabling, which implies that identifying as transgender does not constitute a mental disorder. For these individuals, the significant problem is finding affordable resources, such as counseling, hormone therapy, medical procedures and the social support necessary to freely express their gender identity and minimize discrimination. Many other obstacles may lead to distress, including a lack of acceptance within society, direct or indirect experiences with discrimination, or assault. These experiences may lead many transgender people to suffer with anxiety, depression or related disorders at higher rates than nontransgender persons. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), people who experience intense, persistent gender incongruence can be given the diagnosis of "gender dysphoria." Some contend that the diagnosis inappropriately pathologizes gender noncongruence and should be eliminated. Others argue that it is essential to retain the diagnosis to ensure access to care. The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is under revision and there may be changes to its current classification of intense persistent gender incongruence as "gender identity disorder." http://www.apa.org/topics/lgbt/transgender.aspx |
And what treatment or cure would you suggest for somebody who is transgender? My personal favorite treatment is hormone replacement therapy and acceptance. |
| Like transgendered, Many schizophrenics don't see their illness as disabling or distressful and don't believe they have a mental illness. One has a big lobbying fund, the other does not. The one with lobbyist have spent billions to influence others to make it acceptable and POlitically Correct. |
Ah yes, the all-powerful, deep-pocketed Transgender Lobbying Association, before which all politicians tremble. |
Do it. Make VERY LIBERAL use of the report button and ask allies to do the same. Perhaps warn Jeff in Website Feedback before/when you do. |

Gyms should have a unisex bathroom, one stall with a shower, for transgenders.
Problem solved! |
Separate but equal solves the problem? |
| Planet Fitness is $20 a month, 24 hours a day, with no contract, no cancellation fees, and no showy grunters. I love it. |

| Put your words into action, if you support transgenders have sex, date or marry one. Didn't think so you all are hypocrites. |
Experts don't consider it a disorder. Considering how unbelievably the complex the body and especially the brain are, it stands to reason that just a slight variation here or there could make a person innately feel s/he is a particular gender, even if it doesn't match their sex organs. That's not a disorder. That's a difference. And since it hurts no one, what is the big deal? |
If I loved the person? Of course I would. |
Policing other people's language is the epitome of arrogance. |
Hmmm, I love my dad, but I don't do those things with him. I love my kids. I love my best friend who is the same gender as I am and quite straight like me. I'm pretty sure I can love someone and support them without having sex with them, dating them, or marrying them. Nice try though. |
