A gender neutral changing room is in order. Simple as that. And I'm sure the transgendered wouldn't mind that either.

The term is transgender, not "transgendered." I don't think you're in a position to assume what someone who is transgender would or would not mind. They can probably speak for themselves.

Policing other people's language is the epitome of arrogance.

Transgendered is considered offensive, like something was done to them. (The paper was yellowed after sitting in the sun for a week). PP was educating everybody on the proper, respectful term to use.

In 2014, there were 268 murders of transgender women world-wide, 14 of which were in the US. There have been over 10K reports of transgender violence.
https://genderidentitywatch.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/transgender-violence-tracking-project-releases-their-annual-violence-report-los-angeles-lgbt-issues-_-examiner.pdf

In 2014, there were no documented cases of cross-dressing men committing violent crimes against women.

Which seems to be the bigger problem? While I can understand the potential for harm from cross-dressing men on unsuspecting women, so far, that has not been an issue, yet the issue of transgender victims of violent crime is well documented. Until such time as the former becomes a problem, the latter needs to be addressed.

And for those who are bothered by the Planet Fitness policy, pick another gym. Really. You know the policy now, so vote with your feet. The company is a public business that has chosen to enact a policy that does not violate any known discrimination clause, so they are free to do so.

Who the hell made up this word? I will admit - I thought the first time I saw it in this thread that it was a typo.
Sad times we are in that we have to have a word to describe people who are NOT transgender. Pathetic.

What word would you use to describe people who are NOT transgender? "NOT-transgender" seems quite clumsy to me. And the opposite of "trans" is "cis". Just ask the Romans about Gaul.

Any woman who is uncomfortable undressing in the presence of a strange man should join a gym, and there are several, that takes their uncomfortableness them into consideration.

But there wasn't a "strange man" in the women's locker room. There were only women.

Ok I'm totally in favor of PF's decision in this case and I agree that unless someone is swinging their penis around the locker room, no one should be concerned about a transgender woman changing in the woman's locker room.

BUT, it is complete BS to say that their were no men in the locker room. Just because someone feels, dresses, and acts like a woman does not make them a woman. It just doesn't. And it honestly makes you sound delusional when you claim the opposite. We simply cannot have an honest conversation about transgender issues when you mAke blatantly false statements.

I am thankful for PF for trying to do the right thing. But i can understand how criminals could use this to infiltrate a lockerroom, especially after this news bit.

A sex change operation usually costs more money than a transexual can afford, but a mens lockerroom is too dangerous for a transexual too. Please dont hate us for this, if you can empathize.

I agree. It's ridiculous to say that a man who thinks he's a woman is...a woman. He still a man. He's a man with a psychological problem, IMO, and he has my sympathy.

You don't magically become a woman by feeling like one.

If the issue is painful enough for people to kill themselves over it, or be killed by people who hate them, then it would be nice if people who are happy with their own gender to actually consider what it would be like to not identify at all with their own body, and be told by others that this body is their true form.

You're in the minority for giving a shit, sunshine. Shuffle off to the tar pit and join the rest of the dinosaurs. Leave the transgender people who are just trying to pee/change/workout alone.

So 1,000 people are supposed to ignore their consciences/beliefs/physical comfort for 1 person? No thank you. If PF wants to let them use a locker room, charge everyone an extra $5/month top offset the cost of providing a third unisex locker room.

And I agree with the PP who said thinking it didn't magically make you a woman. If I decide I identify more with the Chinese, it doesn't change the fact that I'm white

Exactly. It's pretty ridiculous to claim otherwise.

Ah yes, the all-powerful, deep-pocketed Transgender Lobbying Association, before which all politicians tremble.

You do know what that T stands for in the LGBT lobbying groups, don't you?

I'd be fine with a transgender female in the ladies locker room. However, I would be alarmed if I saw a man in the ladies locker room. It sounds like the person seen in the locker room appeared to be a man, not a transgender and can understand the woman's concern. If it isn't clear that someone is transgender via their clothing, makeup, etc, how would someone know he/she is?

But I am already married. Must I get divorced, deliberately seek out a transgender person, and insist on marrying them (whether they want to marry me or not), otherwise I'm a hypocrite?

I don't think that we can have an honest conversation about transgender issues if you refuse to acknowledge the viewpoints and identities of transgender people.

My gym has a steam room and a sauna in the locker room. Many women sit in their naked on a towel. Is it o.k. for transgender people to sit naked in these rooms as well?
