Preceded by "Here's your Hero". I would say that PP disapproves of Kyle's former job. |
Ok, so you couldn't find context for a quote in the actual book, but you managed to find it in an entirely separate interview? I think you're confused. You weren't searching for context. You were searching for something to support your position. Are you indicating that nobody should have an opinion about a public figure until they read their book? Then I trust that you read Obama's book before forming an opinion about him. |
Different poster. I read O's book. I think if more people had really read it, they would not have voted for him. He has a different way of looking at things that is different from most people. |
It has been noted above that a judgment in federal court has proved that he lied to gain notoriety. And the bolded is yet another lie. Charity Begins at Home and The Money Trail One final lie that has been told ad nauseam, is that Chris Kyle and his family donated all the proceeds from the sale of the book American Sniper to families of vets. The Kyle's say that 100% has gone to charities that support other vet families. This is an out and out lie, and a really despicable one that is repeated constantly by the corporate media. The truth is…the family has only given 2% of the profits to charity. The profits from the book belong to the Kyle family, and they should do with them what they please, but what they shouldn't do is tell people they are giving the money away in order to look good, while they in fact keep the money. The Kyle family has made over $6 million from the book, and that number will increase with further book sales and from an upcoming movie starring Bradley Cooper and directed by Clint Eastwood. So why isn't the corporate media up in arms over Chris Kyle and his wife lying repeatedly about the profits and proceeds from the book? Instead of asking Jesse Ventura why he doesn't give the money he is owed back to the Kyle family, why not ask the Kyle family why they keep lying about giving money to vets when they don't? I wanted to hear what Kris Kyle had to say in his own words. He does not sound unhinged, nor does he sound hateful in this interview. In fact, O'Reilly kept trying to bait him, and it didn't work. As for opinions, sure you can have em, I did indeed read Obama's book. I also watched his SOTU and watched all his speeches in the past. That's how I came to form my opinion - it was based on listening to him, reading him and watching him. If you can say the same about Kyle, then that's fine. What I seem to be reading here is a bunch of people linking to op-eds, etc, and any information directly from Kyle, comes from quotes from those stories. |
Fully agree. Fully. I didn't vote for him and the book was part of that. |
These posts are disgusting. I hope all of you who can sit here and spend time trashing a deceased veteran who fought in 4 tours to defend this very country you live in, NEVER have a love one die in the hands of a terrorist.
But I wish we could lift you out of your comfy chair and throw you in the middle of Iraq. You would all be begging for help from a vet like him. Honestly shocked. Repulsed. Amazed how crappy our vets are treated. |
You should really, really read that National Review article I linked above. And I have never, ever suggested that anyone read anything in the National Review before. Wherein a conservative writer and lawyer wonders: "More important, however, it demonstrates a worrisome level of blind hero worship. The idea that, because Kyle served his country bravely and honorably, he was therefore always honorable in all aspects of his life, and can do no wrong, ever, is preposterous. As Pocket Full of Liberty’s editor Skyler Mann wondered: 'Not about Chris Kyle in particular but the hullaboo makes me wonder: if a veteran does something super sh**** is it OK because s/he’s a vet?'" |
The reason we are talking about him though are for his worthy actions as a vet. I am not sure how he was in other realms of life--just like I would not want a mirror held up to mine! If I do something shh*** in my private life (and I am not agreeing he has--though I imagine we all have!) can I not still get professional kudos? Can I not be admired for some actions/ideas/personality traits without an analysis and bean counting of all the others? Do you hold MLK Jrs civil rights actions, faith, belief and conviction as unworthy or uninspiring b/cause he cheated[i] on his wife repeatedly? I don't think anyone is claiming Chris Kyle is perfect. The emotional response to him is because he seems so ordinary, yet did some amazing and selfless things that he and his family should be rightfully proud of. To many, that's what a real 'hero' is. |
he had PTSD, dis-attachment and then turned to alcohol. He wrote the memoirs to stop the night terrors. It was healing. People are ripping apart his life. He wasn't perfect. Never claimed to be. He turned himself around and formed a charity for PTSD and helped out others like him. He isn't some low life loser killing, thieving, raping, sucking money from the government. If a few wrong or embellished stories come up, wont change the fact of what he did. Saved American soldiers lives. He deserves respect and peace. So does his family. |
To put a finer point on it, the reason we are talking about him is because he wrote a book about his worthy actions as a vet. And that book also included some not-so-worthy actions and some outright lies. The trouble is that apparently we're not allowed to talk about the latter because of the former. Imperfect people are more interesting and make better books, and films. Blind hero-worship should not preclude a discussion of someone's bad points. There are lots of people upthread who seem to think it should. Regarding the film - is there really a film with scene including a fake baby in the running for best picture? |
I am pretty sure every memoir has a few holes in it--memoir is a story you tell to make sense of your own reality and you are the ultimate editor. It is not an impartial documentary--you know this, yes? I don't think anyone thinks Chris Kyle is perfect--I like him better for some of the character traits I've heard of; I'm sure a thousand different personality types could do the job he did and quite a few could not. His personality is part of what made him a successful sniper, which last I heard was something we train people in the military to be and don't ask them to apologize for. His family looks like the biggest heroes of all to me. |
He was well known before the book, at least by people who cared for what our military does. Top recognitions and awards. You are just writing rude after rude comment bashing a dead vet. And it makes you feel superior? Keep going. Make yourself feel better. |
So, nobody wants to talk about his Katrina stories? He Claimed that he and other snipers were ordered to kill dozens of looters in the aftermath of Katrina. This is a pretty serious allegation and NOBODY is talking about it. If it's not true, he should be held accountable. If it is true, the Bush Administration should be held accountable. |
I do not feel superior. I have never said that. I merely find it interesting to be able to discuss someone's entire life and not gloss over the parts that don't fit your shiny hero Superman narrative. You find it rude if someone calls you imperfect? No one is perfect and no one would read a book or watch a film about someone who was. And, as the OP indicated, you all don't seem to want to do that. |
