American Sniper

It was a pretty good movie, but why is everyone acting like Chris Kyle was some sort of saint? He was obviously very good at his job, and I appreciate his service. But the man claimed to beat several people for no reason. He also claimed to kill 2 men for trying to steal his truck. Even though all of this happened in public, there don't seem to be any witnesses to verify his stories. He also claimed that he and other snipers shot dozens of US citizens during Katrina. Yet...anyone who criticizes the movie is unpatriotic. I don't understand.

He was a megalomaniacal redneck who died as he lived, if you ask me. We had no fucking business being in Iraq anyway.

He was killed trying to help a mentally ill veteran. But keep it classy.

Yes, because we all know how well mental illness and guns go together.

As I said, he died how he lived, glorifying guns. Ironic, isn't it?

Taking the mentally ill man to a range and putting a gun in his hand was a poor choice.

Op here. It's in his autobiography and interviews. He was quite proud of these stories. Yet, the movie didn't address them. It barely touched on his PTSD, and made it seem very easily cured or managed. This is not helpful to vets who suffer daily from PTSD.

Live by the gun, die by the gun.

Just take a look at the director if you want to know why. There have been legal judgments against his estate for slander and libel based on lies from his book.

And nobody is talking about this: he owned a self defense company.

He made a living as one of the deadliest snipers in history. He made another living convincing people that they can protect themselves with guns. But he, of all people, could not protect himself. This is because most gun violence does not resemble a wild west saloon style shootout like they fantasize about.

This reminds me of a very recent incident in my hometown, Kansas City at a self defense business cakled She's A Pistol. The owner opened fire on 4 would-be robbers. He's dead. They lived. His wife was present and could have been killed in cross-fire. Their business is in a strip mall so passerbys could have been killed. Several cops were right around the corner at City Hall. The was not a responsible gun owner OR a hero...

So snipers get to come home and kill people, beat people, and accuse the federal government of killing dozens of Americans without due process?

He was a simplistic minded person whose dichotomous view of the world (us good, them.bad, ooga booga) allowed him to take delight in killing other human beings. I absolutely feel comfortable criticizing people like him, including the mouth breathing opportunists in our government who led us into an unjustified war by exploiting the ignorant prejudices of people like him, and which accomplished nothing more than to make us less safe. Chris Kyle loved what he did; no one asked him to do shit. He's not MY hero.
