Can "bad" schools get better?

Median family income in MOCO is 106,093. If you that and divide by 12 and multiple by 40% you get 3536 which amounts to a house with piti about 600k. You can buy in a decent house in WJ school district for that amount. Condos even start at 189k

I went to a school in another state that would likely compare to Blair in many ways-Great AP program, Med-science program with lots of smart kids. One kid got a full scholarship to Harvard, many went on to college, while many others did drugs, while some others dropped out.

What would you call a student, then, that makes lewd remarks to your daughter as she is walking down the hallway? Who direspects the teachers in their classrooms; Who destroys school property? Whu uses profanity constantly; who tortures the meeker students? There are pigs at all schools - even the W schools and there is no reason to be politically correct when describing them.

All of you who have written off entire groups of kids as worthless, disposable people who should be kept separate "in their own school" (makes my stomach turn just typing it) are a new low for DCUM.

I hope you aren't passing your nastiness onto your kids. Hopefully they'll be bigger people than you and actually give a shit about others.

I bet if you really have to, you could sell your house and get a rental TH that feeds to one of the W schools. But that's so far-fetched, you won't even consider that as one of the choices. The way I see it, you made your "choice" - you decided what you have to give up is not worth what you may or may not be gaining.

I wouldn't move either. Just trying to point out we all have more choices than we are willing to acknowledge.

Our HH income is 80K. So what are my choices again????

I posted this and forgot to say that I want better for my kid-Blair is good only due to the magnet-Whitman is good because of the student body, as is Sherwood and the other W schools. Political correctedness aside, poor minority populations bring down a school and there is no doubt that is a fact!

If your HHI is under $200,000 in this area you cannot live well and cannot live in a good cluster unless you bought your home before the year 2001.

I don't own a home so what do I do if I want my bright child to go to a W school? Do you know of any low income rentals? What are my choices again?

I think you need to rethink your definition of "living well." You sound spoiled.

This. I've taught at one of the aforementioned crappy schools (Watkins Mill) and one of the aforementioned "nicer" schools (Churchill). I had many wonderful, wonderful students at Watkins Mill. But the ones who cursed directly to me, made sexually explicit comments to me, the ones who threatened other students with violence (luckily it was never me), the ones who vandalized property, or the ones who simply could not even be bothered to show up? Yeah, I'm not even going to try to PC about it.

Say what you will about Churchill students (and I could say plenty) but never ONCE did I feel threatened or violated by them.

Zoned for Northwood. Nice try though. Maybe it's time for you to move further out instead of whining about MPS. I hear Crownsville is nice.

Do you mean Clarksville? Would love to live there! Better than MCPS-way better!

No, I meant Crownsville.

Either way, bye. If you're not happy, just leave. Or work to change things. Ranting here isn't doing shit for you or your precious, delicate baby.
