s/o what are AA parents teaching their kids?

Some in this thread have touched on the black person's obsession with respect. I wonder where they learned it from? As we look through history and the interaction of blacks with whites, how does "respect" play into things? Could these interactions have had an effect on how blacks view respect and the need to have it?

Sorry but all the successful of AA families I know have distanced themselves from the majority of AAs out there; that is the only way to get ahead -- not bc you won't still face discrimination -- but bc you will still keep pushing forward bc you won't be pulled into the vortex of "the world is unfair, why you try -- let's just blame EVERYTHING on racism."

Do the experts have any questions or suggestions for Latino parents whose children are equally subject to racial profiling and discrimination and may be perhaps even more entrenched in gang culture and violence than the evil infamous blacks?

Honestly, this is a weird thread. 2 AA teens robbed stuff from a convenience store. One who later was killed by a cop assaulted the store worker. A customer called the police NOT the store which didn't want to offend customer base.

Days later there were AA people protecting stores from looters who were AA. Were 15,000 [approx 70% of 21,500]people on the streets or were many staying out of this potentially dangerous situation? My nanny will tell me that while she's appalled at some of the behaviors of Latino youths, in their culture (She's speaking about those from El Salvador.) it's family first. And that's why so many students have chronic absenteeism. Many take days off to translate for their parents and work to put food on the table.

I know. The majority of my students are Hispanic.

Wow this is truly amazing. To think all AA's have to do is be more white and they can achieve full inclusion in society.

Hmmmm...I could have sworn they tried that in the 20's and 30's when blacks were straightening their hair and investing in skin lightening creams trying to look like Duke Ellington but I guess whites weren't really ready to embrace them yet considering there were more lynchings during that time than any other period in history, but oh well it's worth another shot right?

That's another topic that deserves it's own thread. I'm pretty sure with MS-13 and La Raza setting up shop in Montgomery County that many people have concerns about gangs. Also, since the La Raza gang despises both black and whites this will make a very interesting discussion.

Opportunistic thieves are looting NOT the thousands of black Ferguson residents. I have a feeling your "they" encompasses all of the black people there and not just the looters.
