I am a white woman who looks like a minivan driving soccer mom and I am terrified of the police...and I suspect I am teaching my kids the same things AA parents teach their kids. I suspect most parents teach their kids the same thing about possible interactions with the police: they carry weapons and can use them, so follow directions, be calm and respectful, and keep your hands visible and still. No sudden movements. Don't seem agitated or aggressive. These are the rules I live by since I don't really trust all police officers to do the right thing. These are people who likely didn't attend college and opted for a career because they were seeking an authority role that allows them to carry a weapon.

These are immigrants who often don't speak English, don't come from educated families, come here with just a few suitcases -- and yes quite often are black so they face skin color discrimination also.
