WES Head of School resigns

Great state of the school meeting last night. WES is a great school. Between Britt and Nancy the transition will be smooth. They are both stars.

I laughed when I read about the board member's kid getting the third king position in the Christmas production. Is that preferential crap really still going on? One of my friends (not on parent board) was SO pissed that her son wasn't selected to be the third king. We left. Too insane.

This type of thing also happens at St. Andrew's. Donate a lot, kids show up in plays with few roles, brochures, parents are suddenly on board of directors, and school staff and heads fall all over kids. Disgusting to those who pay full fare and must witness this.

Why is this only "disgusting to those who pay full fare"? Do you therefore think that families on financial aid should just be grateful and accept anything that occurs at the school and shut up about it? You sound like you are just jealous that you aren't able to buy influence but you would if you could.

The majority of people seem to think that the Head of the School didn't fix the mess at WES. In my opinion, he made things worse and now he is leaving! Any thoughts on the Head of the Lower School?

It saddens me that a people feel it is appropriate to attack individual people in this anonymous forum. I feel bad for the people that are being discussed in this forum and I feel bad for the people who feel the need to post these negative things. Please stop.

People tend to be angry when their children have mean teachers and nothing is done about it.

No, what this PP is trying to say is that they are paying full freight, as we did at WES, but that St. Andrew's falls all over the parent that gives the extra big cash gifts on top of full frieght - and then those parents get on the boards, the children are featured in programs, concerts, etc., and get the benefits and favoritism. It did happen at WES when we were there. The head had his favorites and they got all the plums. He was also in charge of exmissions and that's where things got nasty. I still have retained an email from him (not current revolving head) clearly threatening a "very good" recommendation he had give to us on exmission when we had to complain about current bizarre levels of homework being given by a teacher still at the school. The threat was clear - you continue to complain about excessive homework and I'm going to call the school you are moving to and tell them you are a troublemaker.

Listen, people. There are a lot of independent schools in this area. If you are so unhappy, just move on to another one. Or go to a public school. The tuition you pay does not give you the right to make personnel or curriculum decisions. It just doesn't. It amazes me that people continue to pay 30 grand a year to a school that they hate. Yes, people that donate big bucks to the school are often on the board. Without big donors, tuition will be even higher than it is now. Most of the people bitching on this thread would likely be unhappy at any school, unless they get to be one of the "favored" families, which they are probably aching to be.

WES targets people that want a private school education with small class sizes so it's not kind to say to these parents, "there's the door - go to public!" The unhappy parents need to do research about other privates and every grade is not always an entry year at other schools. I cannot imagine having WES in charge of getting my child into a high school, that is for sure. A lot of families are sticking around because more privates start in 6th grade and it's an entry year at others. Well, it sure looks like WES will be able to offer small class sizes - they don't have a choice!

Jealous. Not! I'm sure most noticed and did not appreciate this blatant behavior. I did not intend to leave you out. But, I did not speak with anyone else about this outside my family, so I only speak for myself, which is all I ever do on this board. Thanks.

No matter what your opinion is about WES, this thread has had more than 11,000 views. Whether you love it or hate it, there are certainly a lot of people who are very interested in what the future holds for WES. Careful consideration and deliberation must be taken before any major changes are made from this point on.
