Yes, but it should be Standard English and some useful and pretty version of English, like Pittsburghese - Yinz all need ta learn ta talk, en at. Go Stillers! |
After failing to get a place in HRCS for two years I give up. I'm super jealous even if the new location is 1/2 block away. Although one of the dads offered to uber my kids since we are native speakers. Should I take him on? I love the EOTP DCPS that they're in, but there is no all organic, chef prepared food, no Klingon taught, and we don't have the crazy parents with no interest or the crazy parents with interest. Oh well, maybe next year. |
I got a spot at HRCS today! I don't know anything about it. What do people think?! |
Me too!! We got a spot even though we didn't apply! Sorry you didn't get in poster 2 posts above - do you have any advice for us since you know a lot about the school? We're in a really expensive private, but we don't even notice how much we spend on it... but our friends are saying "free is better", but we're not sure... I think we're thinking of taking the spot and then only sending Larlo on Tuesdays and Thursdays (private the other days). PP who really really wanted into the school, could you write all the things you love about it even though you get in? I can't bother to use the search function... |
I did not get into HRCS and am very bitter about it.
I went to 30 open houses in DC, read every post written about each school, stayed on DCUM 18 hours a day in case something interesting about the schools were discussed and got a Spanish and Mandarin tutor for my child - just in case. And I didn't get in. How is it possible? I did everything I could and still... nothing. So, now I will have to send my DC to LRCS. I am very concerned about my high-IQ kid getting so bored that he loses all interest in education and grows up wanting to backpack Europe for life instead of going to an Ivy. Poor me. |
WAIT - the alternative to Ivy League is backpacking in Europe for life??? WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL US THIS BEFORE??? Does someone pay for us parents to go too, or just our kids for life? Like, someone else, because I'm sure you don't mean we pay for our kids.
Does this include fancy hotels, or would we have to slum it and stay in 4.5 star hotels instead of 6 stars? |
Actually, he would be couch surfing throughout Europe. He'll have about $15/day and that won't cover much. So, I'll be grooming him to find an older sugarmama in the prime of his life so he'll be set around 40 or so. That way, my husband and I will be able to move into our son's mansion in our last years of life.
Hmm, LRCS doesn't seem so bad after all! Thanks PP! |
Wow, people are still posting on this? |
I am the person who got in up/thread. Sorry you didn't. However, given all your research, could you share everything you love about the school? I applied in a whim and know nothing about it. TIA. |
NP, but I am SO SICK of people getting into HRCS and other good schools who have done no research and then coming here to gloat and ask for info. Ok, here is my feedback - HRCS is awful and not a place for kids to thrive. It is also in a dangerous neighborhood. I would never send my child there, and neither should you. Much better to send your snowflake to a private school. |
Good god can we please give this inane thread a rest? |
You are free to stop following it. |
Pfft. This is exactly the attitude I expect from private school parents. They have a hard time admitting that HRCS students are beating all their snowflakes in the college admissions race. Sour grapes! Just because your Big 3 school doesn't have it's own Harvard recruiting office on the upper school campus, you shouldn't hold it against us. Remember, we are better parents than you and better people because we support public education. |
I may send my child to a private school, but I am a taxpayer and therefore also support public education! I should be given an amount equal to what my cold would cost in public school to subsidize my cost of private education. |
Come on people, don't bash this poor poster. They are clearly mentally deficient and can't understand that there is CHOICE in which threads they click and read. We should be kind and empathetic. But also be glad they're not at HRCS, since we wouldn't want them bringing the testing curve down. See, win-win! So be nice... ![]() |
