WISC Scores

Okay, another opinion then.

None of us know, we're all just other parents speculating. But your DC's scores seem right on the edge, and in can't hurt to appeal--after all, you hate to wonder "what if," and s/he might just get in!

So my vote is to go for it, never look back, and either way your DC will have a happy life with a concerned parent like you!!!

typo: "it can't hurt" -- not "in can't hurt"

I think with a 135 you should give it a try. That is a high score in an area that they look closely at. Good luck!

What are the socres for NNAT and CogAt?
To me kind of bordeline, but why not appeal..
Doesn't cost anything at this point.

By the way, for those appealing with WISC scores, I've been told that the WISC basically erases the CogAT on appeal, but that the NNAT can still influence the appeals committee (if it's high). That is because the WISC is sort of like a very accurate CogAT, so they essentially dismiss the CogAT scores when they have WISC scores to consider instead, but the NNAT is an altogether different kind of test, so it's still part of the equation on appeal.

this sound about right, but it leaves the GBRS as tie-breaker, and an 8 probably can't be overcome with a high WISC. Nor should it.

I have read it in another thread that a DC with GBRS 7 with high WISC was in last year.

15:27 so let me understand are you saying if someone has a high NNAT a high WISC but a low GBRS they should not be let into the program. What if the teacher was wron and did not see the potential in this child?

CogAt - bad, group test
GBRS - bad, subjective
WISC at GMU - bad, just Grad Students
WISC from private psychologist for $450 - ah, just right! That's the ticket!

I never said the WISC at GMU was bad just not as caring. I think results would be the same at GMU or from a private tester. I think what the parents come away with from a private tester is a greater understanding of the test and how the scores reflect upon their childs strengths and weaknesses.

What you said is so silly. I have done both GMU and a private tester for different children. Both were great scores, but GMU gave me alot more confidence that it was the correct score. I didn't need someone to 'care' for my DC, just test them and be honest about how they did.

Why did GMU give you more confidence?

Probably because the private tester that the PP chose was not as competent. There are good and not-so-good private testers out there.

but one PP said the score "will be what it will be." So that's not necessarily true? It may depend on ther tester?
