Verbal 142-- what were the Cogat/ NNAt subscores? I think the 142 is very high, but I also think it would be a stronger package if you had a high nv/quant somewhere. |
GBRS score? |
Within the WISC 4
ARTHIMETIC 16 GBRS was 14 |
My DD scores :
Cogat 95%ile ; NNAT 96%ile; WISC IV - 129 FSIQ ; verbal - 98%(130); processing speed - 94%; working memory - 94%; perceptual reasoning - 84%; 2nd grade teacher, 3rd grade math teacher and OM coach recommendation letters along with appeal. What do u think are the chances for the appeal? |
For anyone who is wondering if GBRS scores are nonsense, here is our example:
Our DC has a GBRS of 7. I asked the teacher why and she told us that he doesn't always demonstrate "an extension of what we are teaching in class". I asked what he does show. She said that when she was teaching 2 digit addition, he would do 3 or 4 digit addition. I said, do you know that he can multiply 345*23 in his head. She said "Oh yes, I know that, but that isn't an extension of what I am teaching so it doesn't demonstrate a gifted behavior." Yes, we submitted our appeal. |
Is this for FCPS AAP or Loudoun FUTURA? |
We in a similar situation with a GBRS of 6 , have you done WISC and what are your other scores? |
We are a few years past the appeal stage (Ds is just finishing 4th grade AAP) but did your school allow other FCPS teachers to write recommendations? Ours would not allow it, and said, in fact, the only way FCPS teachers were allowed to participate was with their contribution to the GBRS. As such, no FCPS teacher letters were permitted in the appeal. This might have just been our school. Of course, if coming from private, I would imagine all teachers could contribute. |
Also added the scores in WISC... This is for Loudoun Futura... |
I am from out of state. My son (going into 8th) applied to the FCPS GT-AAP program because we were moving to Northern Virginia. FCPS required he take a WISC-IV to support his application. He scored a VCI of 136, PRI of 125, WMI of 126, and a low PSI of 80. He scored a GAI of 136. They also took into consideration his academic performance in the past three years (grades and teacher comments). He was immediately accepted to the FCPS GT-AAP program. I have no idea what people here are talking about when they claim their child scored an IQ of 10,000, or whatever, and was rejected. Something else is at work here. It is entirely possible that the school knows the child and simply does not assess that he/she will be a good fit for the GT-AAP program. |
Because your child took the test outside of the Northern Virginia area, FCPS probably took your child's test scores a little more seriously. Obviously, there is a certain "inflation" in the WISC scores being reported in the Northern Virginia area, and that might have something to do with the intense parent pressure to qualify kids for the FCPS AAP program. the Army of kids qualifying in the 99% range does not reflect a realistic situation. |

can any one plz tell how to prepare for wisc v test??/ |
You can call the office of the tester you'll be using and ask them what they recommend. They'll be able to let you know what is best for the test your child will be taking. |
No. Ignore the PP; do not call testing site!
I'm not aware of any prep for WISC. Perhaps Google could help. |
