Let's hope you were merely trying to make an (unfunny) joke, 9:29.

in certain communities, and I'm sorry to single out the subcontinent and parts of Asia, this is a very big deal and a matter of honor amongst members of the community. If you don't get in you feel shamed and like a loser. So to many of us it may not be a big deal, but for the parents of the rejected kids, they feel like it it is detrimental to their status in these community because the kids of their friends did get in and make such a big deal about it. This is just the way it is.

In our GT center all GT classes are at least 85% Asian. I'm sure that somehow they game the testing system.

There's a thread about 'prep' for NNAT/CogAt, WISC, and other tests.

Some of them 'prep' their kids to varying degrees. The rate may be higher with Asians from their much interests in education.
Also in general, Asians have higher average IQ as well.

I talked to the psychologist and she assured me that Carol Horn (who is in charge of Fairfax GT) disfavors the GAI, and any competent person can calculate it in a matter of seconds (I did this myself using the technical report). The psychologist felt strongly that the appeals committee wants to see just the VCI, PRI, WSI, PSI, FSIQ and the subtest scores, and advised me NOT to muck up the report with the GAI. So that's what we're doing, even though the GAI would place my child in the 99th percentile (compared to 97% on FSIQ). Also, I too am curious why Fairfax pushes GMU's grad student testers. Any one have any ideas on this? Thanks!

yeah because they can't be bribed or bought. Your post is illustrative. What's the psychologist doing advising you on what the FCPS GT people want to see? Their job is supposed be to adminsiter the test and score the results. Period. Except obviously a cottage has industry had grown up around getting kids into the GT program. For money.

I am just curious why what the psychologist told her is in any way cheating or wrong. It had nothing to do with what her child scored on the test,it had to do with the results. In my opinion one of the big differences about going to a private psychologist is they will take the time to explain the results to you and they mean. I learned so much about my child's learning and how to approach their learning style. Also like another poster said before the price between GMU and a private psychologist is about 20.00. I do not think that 20.00 is worth losing your liscense over.

21:36 here. The psychologist I used charged $30 less than GMU, has twenty plus years of professional experience dealing with the Fairfax GT system (can't get that from a GMU grad student), and specializes in gifted children with learning disabilities (the main reason I chose a private professional over the grad students at GMU). If you have not walked a mile in my shoes, don't cast stones. I'm doing what I think is best for my daughter, and there is no way in hell that the scores my child got on the WISC were "bought" or less-reliable than what you get at GMU.

sorry, PP is 9:21 from yesterday, responding to 21:36 who thinks I bought better scores from a private psychologist.

Now let's wait for 21:36 to jump on your child's twice exceptionalility. So many misinformed people really believe that a child can't be both gifted and learning disabled.

Nothing is wrong with those extra information if no result was altered or enhanced.

Posting your child's scores on 5 different threads does not increase their chances.
