David Catania, an openly-gay (former) Republican, got 35% of the vote as an independent in 2014.

Hah! I remember voting for him back then. I'm leaning towards Lewis George for this round.

It seems crazy that you would vote for David Catania and then vote for Lewis George. They are such different people. He was smart and understood the city inside and out. She is dumb, doesn't follow up and has no vision.

Or maybe she's awesome and you're just stuck on partisan BS that gets us mayors like Muriel Bowser.

Janeese can't manage her own office. She should not be charge of anything.

Blah blah blah, you trolls are lame.

NP here who lives in Ward 4 and voted for Lisa George the last go around. Janeese is pathetic. You all can follow the hype if you want. She's not even half as smart as Bowser.

Not a troll. Why is it blah blah blah when her reputation is that her office is terrible?

Kenyan is the thinnest-skinned rudest person to reporters short of Trump - and he panders. She is not what we need either. Hoping for anyone else.

You are not crazy. We need to vote against soft on crime candidates.

Why not a MAGA mayor? If we appease Trump enough it should work out well for us.

What specifically would you be afraid of in that case? Please list all the terrible scenarios that would unfold. I you have nothing specific to say then you have nothing to worry about..

I care less about labels. If your "maga" mayor can clean the city up, make it unfriendly to any type of criminals, permanently make it impossible to set up shantytowns under the bridges/highways and tent compounds on city streets, stop it from turning into the open air asylum/drug rehab, fix up what's broken and run down, including horrible rat problem, make it business friendly by creating tax favorable policies to motivate people to open offices in our empty 10s of thousands of commercial RE space, motivate people to invest into the city and improve its housing stock, infrastructure and retail, it wouldn't be so bad in my books. But you are clearly afraid of something. What is it?

Home rule will end if Janeese is elected. She is a bad stereotype of a loony liberal who cares more about criminals than their victims.

We need a Republican mayor. Who will run?

Is nobody running? Why, because it's hopeless?

Republican does not equal competence, efficiency or vision, as the President and Congress have shown us.

It doesn't. But at least it's incompatible with some things that ruin the QOL of the residents like crime and rampant vagrancy and all that comes with it. A republican mayor cannot take soft on crime stance and encourage proliferation of shantytowns. If just these 2 problems get addressed to some extent life would already be better and the city would have more investment. Democrats, unfortunately, have shown themselves to align with promotion of degeneracy and urban decay. If a democratic mayor who is willing to address these problems to start with emerges, I'd gladly vote for this candidate. I care less about political party labels.

As someone who lived in the reddest state in America where they destroyed their economy with tax cuts to the point that they couldn't afford to keep schools open 5 days a week, and now lives in this extremely blue dot where it's a contest to see who can fellate criminals the best, the problem is SINGLE PARTY RULE. I can't imagine voting for a Republican especially in this post-Jan6 MAGA era, but when nobody has to win the middle because the result is a foregone conclusion, things go off the rails pretty much immediately.

This post is from Janeese's office. This is what she does. If you criticize her in any way, she accuses you of being MAGA. Beware. This is the kind of person she is.

+1000 It's exhausting, and it's really how she interacts with her own consituents in person too. If you are telling her you voted for her it's hugs and smiles, if you are asking for any assistance or pointing out a problem in your neighborhood it's "why aren't you a real progressive?!" even if that's entirely beside the point. A friend had a kid setting fires in her alley - multiple occasions, caught on camera, they knew where the kid lived, he eventually caught a person's garage on fire and narrowly avoided jumping to the house before the FD got there - and Janeese's response when they reached out for help getting an extra patrol or maybe a social services person to come by his house was essentially "you want me to sic the police on a black child??!" Call me crazy but a kid with a demonstrated arsonist bent needs intervention. Does she think the way to be his champion is just avoid the issue until he kills someone and then he has to live with that and potentially go to prison? Have we proven how lefty we are when it hits that point??

Sadly, I believe I know who wrote this post. The internet is really never that anonymous.

And Jannesse is the most frumpiest gaslighter towards her constituents. She dances around the direct questions. She’s not even as witty or as strong as Bowser. A weak link.

I feel like I'm missing something here - why is that sad? It sounds like you're corroborating their anecdote by recognizing the story more than anything.

Bingo. Specifically, it's the ideological groupthink that comes along with single-party rule that results in a lot of bad policymaking. We effectively have the progressive/DSA wing of the party here along with the good ol' boy moderate (and often corrupt) wing as the two choices, which is frustrating as hell.

I am not PP and I'm sure I don't know you, but she has been terrible as our Ward 4 rep. Not helpful at all.

For me, running a large org in DC and living in DC, I truly believe that Kenyan will be easier to work with. I just want it to be easier to do business in the city. The red tape is ridiculous for no reason. I worked in DC government and remember knowing that I could cut 100 m out of the budget with no problem in my agency. I want someone who is willing to "DOGE" legally and cut spending. There is a lot of waste. When I listen to Janeese, it's clear she's never actually run anything. She has no idea how the world works. What is her vision besides free childcare. I get it, but how would we pay for it if commercial real estate and business taxes are going down. It can't be off the backs of residents. How will she keep families and DINKs in the city? Even her suggestion of a commuter tax is ridiculous when it's been so hard to get employees back downtown. Maybe we can talk about it in 5/10 years, but it would be terrible for small businesses if we did it today.

The sad thing is that in a city with thousands of educated, accomplished and competent people, Janeese is probably one of the top five worst people I could imagine as mayor. Kenyan’s probably not far behind.

Kenyan is such a stooge. No thanks
