Is this a serious post? What does this even mean?

It's not MAGA to want a normal Democrat. We have already seen what happened when we had a moderate Dem. mayor with her hands tied behind her back by a leftist city council. Nothing. At least with the current city council, Bowser was in place to check them, with a leftist city council and a communist mayor this city will be a nightmare.

I wish Bowser would stay and we could just totally redo city council. I'd keep Frumin and Pinto but we've got to get rid of the others.

It's definitely MAGA to call Democrats communists.

I didn't call Democrats communists. I called Janeese Lewis George and Kenyan McDuffie communists.

This is dumb. How are they communists? I don't like Janeese but this is just so stupid.

Kenyan seems better with economics and poor communities. Neither is exceptional but one is simply more solid than the other.

They're still trying to figure out what messaging works but they're really bad at it.

Yeah, I mean if I had to choose between the two, Kenyan? But I would prefer not to.

I'm hoping Goodweather can get on the ticket.

Kenyan mcduffie did a shitty thing to run for the seat he currently holds. He resigned his Ward seat to run for AG, and when his campaign got tossed, he threw his hat in the ring for the competitive at-large seat held by Elissa Silverman, who lost to him.

He’ll never get my vote after that desperate, albeit successful, effort to remain in a powerful position.

Why?

Because I don't want to vote for JLG or McDuffie?

There's also Rini Sampath, who seems to be running as a technocrat, good government type who just wants the DC government to work and not be dysfunctional.

But what do you think Goodweather is bringing to the table? How is he any better? There are others to choose from (or you could write someone in) if you don't want JLG or McDuffie.

Who are the others to choose from? He has the most visible presence - Rini Sampath would probably align more with me, but I'm not seeing her make any headway in terms of being a household name in DC. Same with Hope Solomon, who I've met - I thought she was nice and I would vote for her but I'm just not seeing her get recognition someone should have by mid-April for a mid-June primary. Goodweather seems to be doing the best there.

Vincent Orange is an option, but I didn't even know he was running until a few weeks ago.

JLG is trying to run on what the NY Mayor has done so no real plans, just a concept of a plan. She’s too pro criminal for me and the free childcare for all is just laughable. How about not having kids if you can’t afford them like most people do. We already have free Pk 3/4 gesh. Everything about her is free, free, free which in turn will raise taxes even if she says it’s not.

This. She is just trying to capitalize on Mamdani's popularity.

Who cares? A stooge? That's hardly the worst thing in the world.

We've had it with Bowser for years and it sucks. Unless you're in her inner circle. No thanks to more of that.

I think people are referring to the voting for "lesser of two evils" situation. Since both candidates such, which one sucks less in your opinion?

I don't think either sucks, but I am leaning toward Janeese Lewis George. I think we're ready for something new and different and I don't get all the hype here about her being a catastrophe. We can, in fact, do new good things without wrecking the city.

I don't think Kenyan McDuffie has bad political positions, but he sounds so insincere. I don't think he'd actually do anything meaningfully good.

What are you thinking?

I think JLG thinks that every business owner or homeowner is rich. How will you pay for universal child care. I love it, but are you going to raise my taxes in this economy? Why are you so supportive of tenant rights? I want to be empathetic, but I know so many homeowners who rented their homes and got stuck with deadbeat renters and they still have to pay the mortgage. Or small business owners. It's so hard to do business in the city. Why create more red tape and why is it so hard compared to other jurisdictions. Would love to pay more to restaurant workers, but most restaurant owners are not rich so it is very hard to pay these higher wages. I hear her ideas, but what offsets them? How do we get more revenue in the city? How do we get more efficiency in city government. What does she want to do with schools? She's never had a real leadership role and you want to run the city? She is my councilmember and her office is a mess. I just can't.

I second this as a Ward 4 resident as well. She’s all smoke a mirrors. Wants to show sympathy to criminals when they are running havoc in the city.

I'm a ward 4 resident too, and I've seen her get involved directly to solve things that the mayor wasn't working on. Definitely voting for Janeese.

Another Ward 4 resident and I haven't seen her do ANYTHING. No thanks. She's an amateur.

Do you send your kids to private school? If you've been involved in public school issues you'd see.

I am. She wanted to keep schools closed even longer during the pandemic, no thank you.

Schools would still be closed today if Janeese had her way. She wanted to make remote learning permanent.
