Lol, 40 years and yes, educated Republicans (not MAGA) can have a rational conversation.

but today's Rs are basically MAGA.

You voted for MAGA, you are worthy of contempt.

I disagree. A lot of nice people voted MAGA because the economy was bad and they wanted a change. It’s not easy to eat your words, and I respect people who are able to do that.

Those people were either willfully ignorant morons or willing to excuse racism and siccing a mob on the capitol. Either way, I don't want to be friends with them.

EVERYONE else--all decent people--are on the same side.

This isn't true - I have plenty of friends who have been republicans for decades, and have and still do identify as conservative. They all voted for the Ds - Hillary, Biden, and Harris - to keep trump out of office. That doesn't mean they aren't conservative - they'd happily vote for an old school conservative again.

Unless you meant that there aren't any elected officials who are true, non-MAGA conservatives anymore, in which case, I agree.

They may call themselves conservatives, but they clearly are not understanding what it means to be a conservative.

You know who hates Maga… RINOs even more so than liberal. True conservatives despise. MAGA.

True conservatives would never vote for Trump.

I don't know how it happened, but apparently you read my post and understood it to mean exactly the opposite of what the words say.

Yeah op. Say something. Virtue signaling at work to your coworkers is truly important and changes so much about the United States. Then they can virtue signal back at you, and you can all smugly claim to be “doing something.”

And I respect anyone who can publicly admit, even to friends and co-workers, that they believed lies and were dumb AF. It’s not easy.

There are issues that simply aren't politics for people. My sibling is gay, the long term friend who introduced me to my spouse is Trans. So for me LGBT issues aren't just politics, it's the lives of the people who mean the world to me.

So, you conflate the exclusion of biological males from female sports as some sort of genocide?

You people are complete freaks.

Right. They never want to "own the libs" or anything. They're very tolerant of pronoun choices and brands that value inclusivity in order to appeal to broader swaths of buyers, for example. And they're very patient with No Kings and anti-ICE protestors and never EVER paint them with a nasty brush. That never happens.

A decent portion of the country is cheering on ICE. If you have seen anything they have done and are not horrified, no I am not going to tolerate your "difference of opinion." That is the difference. Conservatives may "tolerate" my view that we should pay more in taxes to be able to provide more government services, but that is not the same as asking me to tolerate the obliteration of some basic human rights for several groups of people.

By "a decent portion" you mean "not anywhere near close to half."

Almost a quarter strongly approves. That is horrific. And another 15% somewhat approves. I am shocked--honestly shocked--that ANYONE (save a few fringe basement dwellers) is okay of their Nazi-like tactics. It isn't people near me but I see it all over the internet. People saying Renee Nicole Good "got what she deserved."

You people are the complete freaks for your obsession about other people’s genitals.

And spare us your concern about the integrity of women’s sports. You hate women and two generations ago you would have been angrily protesting Title IX.

Is wanting to keep your political beliefs to yourself passe in NWDC social circles?

yes, it is the new McCarthyism. But remember that NWDC social circles and DCUM political forum are not representative of the US population overall.

I am all for diversity but if you support what is going on in this country then your morals and values don't align with mine.

All the apolitical people I know are rather dumb, to be honest.

I suspect you don’t really understand the definition of nice.

I know a really nice guy, he was part of the wolfs of Wall Street and bankrupt the whole economy in the United States. No joke if you meet him, you would say wow what a really nice guy. Then I’ll turn around and tell you he was one of the guys who did the big short and crashed the whole economy. Guess what? Not a nice guy

When people met Ted Bundy, they were like man what a nice guy. But guess what he wasn’t.

People who do horrible things are not nice. People who are like oh I want to pay less for apples and I’m OK with a rapist felon, violating people civil rights, and trying to overthrow the government on January 6 and pardoning extremely violent criminals because I want a cheaper apple. That is not a nice guy.

I live in the Midwest, and this is true here as well. No one is tolerant of people who are excited at the inhumane treatment of the poor and vulnerable.

No. I mean like people who are president of the ladies guild or mothers who spend their afternoons volunteering at homeless shelters with babies in tow. They feel stupid and duped by MAGA, and I don’t hate them.
