I agree with this.

Any educated conservatives I know feel they have to hide their views or risk being shunned. I am liberal myself and do not follow this practice. Sorry OP. You need to hide your real views or find different friends.

Can’t believe people are trying to gaslight us into agreeing that “right wingers” are more tolerant. You mean the people that stormed the Capitol. The cult members wearing Trump paraphernalia? My person fave was a shirt I saw in a very upscale resort town that said “If you don’t like Trump, you aren’t gonna like me.” Very tolerant.

Besides, on Wall Street, no one is scared to be a MAGAT. They are highly educated and will argue till the end of time how Trump is still better than the Dems. Exhibit A Bill F-ing Ackman. My husband has to cut off conversation with these people with a “I’m a liberal” at the outset to close down the conversation. They think they can convert him since they don’t care about morals and are all greedy, millionaire/billionaire b@stards.

Yeah, I don't want to be friends with MAGA. MAGA thinks my sister shouldn't have civil rights because of who she loves. But I guess me not wanting to associate with them is somehow worse? Come on.

I’m a younger millennial and have gotten excluded both at work and in my personal life for “being MAGA”, even though I never talk about politics with anyone. FWIW I’m not leftist but not MAGA either, not registered with either party. My BF does work for a center right org that isn’t super involved with Trump anything

Is wanting to keep your political beliefs to yourself passe in NWDC social circles?

It’s just too late and has gone too far. Enough people have decided that the other political side is evil, not merely incorrect or misguided, so now we are just picking teams and are all just going to have to see what happens when literally everything is divided across political lines. What is sad is that it took so few intolerant people to create this pernicious dynamic.

Even if you are open to relationships and friendships with people of opposing political views, as most people are, it’s no longer a rational investment. Too many people are going to be pressured by “secondary boycotts” at it were. It’s not going to be enough to not be MAGA, you’ll be socially punished for having MAGA friends; in the next iteration you will be socially punished for having friends who have MAGA friends. There is no getting off this ride from here. Find people who are aligned with you, there is no other path forward now. The terrible ifs accumulate.

You mean the attempted rapist told victim he was an ICE agent? That's not actually a real ICE agent.

There is a video Of an ice agent raping someone in portable potty. A don john. While the other ice agent waited in the car.

This story? It was a man and the ICE agent fell.

If you have a different story please post the link here.

They have lied every single time they are caught with their divk in their hands, every single time. Look how they portrayed the murder of Good. Why you continue to believe the pedophile protection party's lies is on you.

They are also stealing and divvying up property, including vehicles.

Your sister. Also, millions of people are projected to die following the whole failed DOGE experiment. More people than died in the Haulocaust. And more people will die if they don’t extend the ACA subsidies. Research funding has been slashed at major universities. There is a lot more confusion over vaccines and they are more difficult to get. Combine that with worse access to healthcare in general, and people are going to die.

I don’t know. It seems like things are very bad. And it doesn’t even seem like there is a tangible trade-off. It’s not like taxes are lower or unemployment is down or housing is more affordable.

I just don’t get it. It seems like there is a very real harm in exchange for a purely theoretical benefit that isn’t panning out.

EVERYONE else--all decent people--are on the same side.

This isn't true - I have plenty of friends who have been republicans for decades, and have and still do identify as conservative. They all voted for the Ds - Hillary, Biden, and Harris - to keep trump out of office. That doesn't mean they aren't conservative - they'd happily vote for an old school conservative again.

Unless you meant that there aren't any elected officials who are true, non-MAGA conservatives anymore, in which case, I agree.

They may call themselves conservatives, but they clearly are not understanding what it means to be a conservative.

You know who hates Maga… RINOs even more so than liberal. True conservatives despise. MAGA.

True conservatives would never vote for Trump.

My FIL was an old school lifelong republican and he absolutely loathed Trump.

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

"However much you deny the truth, the truth goes on existing."

"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act."

I thought Pence's new group...while not marketing itself as "anti-Trump" is certainly trying to make the case for a return to Reagan republicanism. They are pulling moderates from the Heritage Group and on the record calling tariffs and other economic policies as socialist, and while believe in a closed border, are very much against what ICE is doing right now.

I think all would agree that Trump basically hates Pence.

They are not pulling moderates from Heritage - moderates haven't worked at Heritage in a long time, maybe ever. They are pulling conservatives uncomfortable with implicit (or explicit) endorsement of white supremacy from Heritage.

I applaud those people - better late than never, I guess, but don't mistake them for "moderates." If anything, if you're using traditional pre-2010 definitions, Pence is substantially more conservative than Trump.

If they didn't vote for Trump, did they vote for the other guy?
If not, they are to blame for Trump getting elected.

It wasn't politics... it was something else that booted you out of the group

Lol, 40 years and yes, educated Republicans (not MAGA) can have a rational conversation.

but today's Rs are basically MAGA.

You voted for MAGA, you are worthy of contempt.

I disagree. A lot of nice people voted MAGA because the economy was bad and they wanted a change. It’s not easy to eat your words, and I respect people who are able to do that.
