Wootton families get penalized by MCPS poor planning and wasteful spending? |
Wootton families made poor decisions paying premiums for economic segregation. Literally they paid too much for houses, to be next to other people who paid too much for their houses. I had the option to buy out that way, but at the time. A) they were planning on building a new school, this has been in the works for over 13 years. B) I couldn't rationalize buying a small dump of a house when I could get 4000+ sq foot home somewhere else. I don't know what to tell you. I pay the same taxes as everyone else, why am I penalized with a school you choose to "pooh-pooh"? From my perspective Wootton families are the problem and why MCPS isn't better for everyone. MCPS keeps hanging their hat on the three good schools they have but there are a dozen under performing schools and an absurd lottery system. |
? when there is a new school, there is disruption. Wootton is the HS that is falling apart. Crown is the brand new HS next to it. Does it make sense to you to fix a car that's falling a part when you have a brand new car right next to it, and your family size is shrinking such that you don't need a second car anymore, and your income was reduced? Your view is more emotional. I get it. No one likes change. But, your view is not logical. |
I don't need a 4000 square foot house. I also don't pooh pooh your school. I guess you chose to "segregate" yourself with people who value 4000 square foot homes? |

It’s more of a segregation of how people value, or believe in the value of, education. Paying a premium to buy into a reputable school cluster is to be with those who are willing to sacrifice in order to provide their children better education. Judging from the cars in outside the high schools in this area, Wootton cluster is economically more diverse than many. Sadly, Wootton families can be the perfect scapegoat for MCPS’ failures. In most public schools, it’s not the school that makes the students good. It’s the students and the families that make the school good. But, just like in the previous post, MCPS (and BOE, and many other officials) takes the credit when there is a success and blame the people for failures.

Do you not understand how many schools are in the same condition but the difference is you are being offered a brand new school nearby! Plus, your kids get access to so many more courses, clubs and activities while ours get the absolute minimum. I’d take that new school over our mold infested one. |
Must be nice to be able to have the privilege to get to choose to live anywhere you want. I mean besides some of the basic community support like language and cultural centers and schools, also making sure that your kids are in an environment where they can be treated as human beings and not stereotyped. Or see initiatives that work against them when they're already discriminated against in other ways. If you're hoping to drive demographics one way or another, you have to be careful which way you're pushing them. Because contrary to popular belief, there are many left leaning Asians and they've been marching since the Civil Rights movement and the recent BLM movements. But it's becoming easier to see why there are also that lean towards MAGA because it looks like they have their best/similar interests in mind. |
Uh, hate to break it to you, but MCPS is using the 3 "dominant" high schools as a reason why they are changing everything, whether you agree with it or not. If you're angry about it, target it toward MCPS Central Office/BOE, not other school communities. And take a moment to reflect- you seem to delight when other schools cluster communities are harmed. Maybe need to take a step back and perhaps instead wish that no ill would be forced on anyone, whether that's you or others you don't know. |

Someone messed up your car. Then they tell you to just buy a new car from them using your own money, and you should be thankful?

We, outside Wootton, also value education. But not all of us can afford it.

It's just delicous to see people getting a taste of their own medicine. Being judged by the school they go to not their actual performance. |
I don't think people are blaming Wootton families for the condition of Wootton. Obviously, that's 100% MCPS fault. But, Wootton families who are complaining about getting a brand new school if it means the HS kids have to take a short bus ride are being a bit whiny. Yes, MCPS decision making sucks. That's not new. But, here we are. Revenues are down; enrollment is down. We have a brand new HS. The most logical decision now is to move Wootton to Crown. |
In this case, no one messed up your car. Time degraded it. It happens. Like it or not, you are part of the MCPS family. You are part of the family that is shrinking and has declining revenues. It makes zero sense for the family to fix up the car that needs millions in repairs. |
I'm not sure how MCPS works, can anyone please explain how the more courses, clubs and activities are offered at Wootton than other schools? |
Some wootton families dont want a new school. They want to stay where they are, and asking for a renovation of school. MCPS planned poorly with the budget, spending millions of dollars on a new school, and now they are saying they dont have enough enrollment, so Wootton has to go? |
