But personally, I believe this person is a sociopath who feels no empathy or sympathy or any emotional connection to anyone. So any displays of emotion by his victims or victims' families just plays out to him as an interesting scientific experiment.

I believe this man murdered because he was fascinated by crime and he wanted to experience what it felt like, given that he's spent a life not feeling anything like normal people.

He's going to write a book in jail and it's going to sell.

Finally, if I had been a parent of a victim, I would not have given him any emotion, negative or positive. It would only be contributing to his real-life experiment.

Have you not heard of the Son of Sam law?
Criminals cannot profit by selling or marketing the stories of their crimes.

Found to be unconstitutional. Try to keep up.

Do you have any examples of recent murderers who have profited though?
Despite a change in law, is there any publisher worth their salt who is going to print this crap?
Probably not. And if he self publishes, there is no marketing budget to promote it

One of the uncles said he really wanted to take him out to the woods and teach him a lesson, not kill him but hurt him like he hurt the kids. You could feel the uncles emotion through the TV screen. That was the closest to hitting him, which was not at all.

Idaho doesn't have a Son of Sam law - many states don't, and many who passed such laws in the wake of NY's original have had them struck down as unconstitutional infringements on free speech, including NY's Son of Sam law.

The emphasis now is on legislation that prioritizes victim compensation - Kohberger can write his book and most of the proceeds would likely go to compensation for the families of his victims.

sorry do you have a link to this?

Its ok I found it.

big D's. etc

I think there are two Goncalves sisters. One didn’t give a statement but her mom did on her behalf. She said the sister hopes he gets los of “D’s” in prison. People politely chuckled but definitely a bit trashy. I’m wondering if she’s still in high school.

The other sister, Alivia Goncalves, gave a really interesting impact statement. I guess you’d call it a “roast”. Very different than a typical victim impact statement. Her last line - “You want the truth? Here’s the one you’ll hate the most: If you hadn’t attacked them in their sleep, in the middle of the night like a pedophile, Kaylee would have kicked your f–king ass”

You need to provide some clear goalposts, i.e., recent.

You need to educate yourself about the costs of the death penalty to the criminal justice system - it’s 3-10x more costly to seek the death penalty and procure it than it is to keep a person in prison for life without parole well into their elder years.

Most rational law enforcement officers from police to prosecutors to judges know that the death penalty is a horrible waste of resources that could better be used fighting more crime. All the research proves it is not a deterrent to crime which means it is 100% about feeding the blood lust of some members of our society.

It’s only that expensive due to the well-funded left-wing groups committed to opposing the death penalty who fund frivolous appeal after frivolous appeal and sympathetic left-wing judges who entertain frivolous habeas claims because they oppose the death penalty in principle and believe that is more important than following the law. Even so, in cases like this, the greater costs of execution would be totally worth it, the death penalty is the only just punishment for this kind of terrible crime. All the stuff about prison justice and tacky victim impact statements are merely the consequence of a state that has utterly failed in its duty to provide justice to crime victims

The Goncalves family……..I’m torn because I understand they are grieving but I thought it was really classless (and quite a contrast to the other grieving families, to be honest) to include comments about prison rape in their statements. The mom ended hers with ‘You may have gotten all As in school but you’ll be getting Big Ds in jail’ or something along those lines. I mean come on…

Yeah, people make bad decisions when they have been so badly traumatized, she’s lashing out. Save your judgment for a system that is too soft on crime; if he’d received the death penalty he so richly deserves, maybe victims wouldn’t act out like this.

Yeah I understand her need to say this, but I'm pretty sure that pedophiles attack children in the daytime as well. The problem is, if the sending of insults is designed to make them feel better, they need to be better worded. I'm sure there must have been family liaison people at the court / in the policeforce who would have been able to advise on this.

Never knew that impact statements, coming from a place of imaginable pain and trauma, was up for grading and red ink comments.

I want to know what recent means before I provide an example.

Based on what? The evidence was pretty strong (DNA, surveillance cameras, internet shopping history, cell phone data) and the defense had no exculpatory evidence or plausible alternate theory of the crime.

Xana interrupting him killing the first two is probably what got her and Ethan killed sadly, but I also think that is the reason he accidentally left the sheath behind, which was the key to the entire thing. But had she been asleep in the room with Ethan, I think BK would have only killed Kaylee and Maddie and likely would have gotten away with it.

She wrote the impact statement for Kohberger alone. Sure, she could've gotten up there are talked about how wonderful her sister was, how much they miss her, etc. But she knows that Kohberger is a true psychopath, unable to feel empathy or remorse. The only way to "impact" him is to hit his ego. So that's what she did. Out of all the heartbreaking things said that day, her statement was probably the only one that actually bothered him, because she insulted his looks, intelligence, ability to get girls, etc.

It is so scary that we live among people who can murder four young adults in cold blood and feel absolutely nothing. He's like a real life Hannibal Lector.
