Why are they running out of South Africa if they have it so good? Just throwing away hectares upon hectares of farmland they know how to manage to come to the US and start all over, having to learn different soils, plant varieties, animal breeds, pests, predators and weather? |
If that’s the case, Trump is doing a fantastic job. I can’t believe the left are allowing themselves to look like racists by making fun of the photos of the refugees, suggesting they deserve persecution because of apartheid, collectively blaming them for their original arrival on the shores of an uninhabited South Africa int the 1650s, and having churches pulling out of refugee programs out of blatant racism and political grandstanding. It’s a complete gift to the right. |
That's not how immigrant visas are handled. This is about refugees. |
Exactly. Believe you’re owed everything and blame everyone else. |
Worked for Che. |
Must be a symptom of toxic masculinity. |
Because they’ve been led to believe that white nationalist beliefs will be valued by the current government. Do you really think that most of them plan to be farmers? I’d actually be curious to know how many of them actually worked as farmers in SA. |
I’m sure the majority of the new arrivals are the lower class whites that had very few opportunities for advancement in SA. |
Why haven't they been trying to flee for years and apply for asylum in not only the US, but also the UK, France, Holland, Belgium, Australia, NZ? If it's so bad, they should be doing all they can to get out. Many of our illiterate, impoverished ancestors did just that in the early 1900s. I'm guessing this "genocide" did not start as soon as Trump called it a genocide? |
I’m the PP whose post you responded to? I literally have no idea what you’re talking about. No one’s talking about the 1600s that I’ve seen anywhere. What I’ve read, including in the Wall Street Journal, is that this is a solution in search of a problem. There is no “genocide” of Afrikaner farmers like Trump mentioned— just a high rate of murders and Home invasions which is common and South Africa and affects more blacks than whites. The WSJ article on this topic is long and explains the context really well, but it’s behind a pay wall. I will try to summarize it in another post. |
Apparently, it’s not that easy to get citizenship in those other countries and when it comes to the Netherlands, where many of Afrikaaners are from, many of them have been in South Africa for hundreds of years and are not eligible for Dutch citizenship. This whole issue rose to the surface because Elon Musk told Trump about it a few months ago. From the WSJ article on the topic: Ahead of the Afrikaners’ arrival, Trump on Monday said he was expediting their entry “because they are being killed…it’s a genocide that’s taking place.” However, relatively few South African farmers say they want to emigrate. Typically, Afrikaners are wealthier than average, and while some murders of white farmers have grabbed headlines for their shocking violence, Black South Africans often die in equally horrific circumstances and in higher numbers in one of the world’s most violent countries. Even Afrikaner rights groups have said they’re more focused on fixing the situation in their country than leaving it. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said it is “completely false” that Afrikaners are persecuted. Just a small percentage of Afrikaners have indicated they’re keen to take Trump up on his offer of refuge in the U.S., either by inquiring for more information or beginning the interview process. Many Afrikaners feel just as African as their Black countrymen, despite vastly different socioeconomic statuses. The Trump offer refers specifically to Afrikaners, and a subsequent Fact Sheet refers to “ethnic minority descendants of settler groups.” |
Many have applied in Australia. |
